NSB Recruitment has an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious Graduate Ecologist to join their award-winning Ecology team. Our client is a leading sustainability and ecological consultancy dedicated to delivering nature-based solutions and biodiversity enhancements. Their multidisciplinary team works on a diverse range of projects across urban and rural environments, supporting clients to integrate environmental best practices into their developments.
Role Overview
They are looking for a passionate Graduate Ecologist looking for opportunity to develop their ecological consultancy career while working on varied and exciting projects across the UK. You will support the delivery of ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies, contributing to positive environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting a range of field surveys (e.g., Phase 1 & UKHabs habitat surveys, protected species surveys).
- Support ecological impact assessments (EIA) and biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments.
- Conduct data analysis and report writing, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
- Assist with the design and implementation of mitigation strategies for protected species.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients, planning authorities, and conservation organisations.
- Ensure work complies with relevant UK legislation, planning policy, and best practice guidance.
- Support biodiversity enhancement initiatives in urban and rural landscapes.
Essential Requirements
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and protected species.
- Some experience with ecological survey techniques (gained through university, work placements, or volunteering).
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
- A keen interest in biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evening or early morning surveys.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with biodiversity net gain (BNG) principles and GIS mapping software.
- Knowledge of bat, reptile, or great crested newt surveys (or holding a relevant licence).
- Membership (or working towards) CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management).
- Experience in ecological consultancy, conservation, or habitat management.
