About the Role: As an Intermediate Software Engineer, you will play a key role in scaling and improving Zipline's cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, and developer experience. You will help design automation solutions, manage containerized environments, and build tools that enable our application development teams to deliver software efficiently and reliably. This role blends hands-on cloud operations with infrastructure development.
What you will do:
- Partner with teams across engineering to improve platform quality, reliability, and developer experience.
- Enhance system observability through improved monitoring, alerting, and telemetry.
- Optimize database performance and scalability (primarily PostgreSQL).
- Collaborate with developers primarily using Ruby on Rails to embed DevOps best practices into the development lifecycle.
- Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines to ensure scalable, reliable, and faster deployments.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to manage cloud resources.
- Manage and scale containerized infrastructure on Kubernetes.
- Support and evolve cloud environments on AWS (experience with GCP or Azure a plus).
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide support for critical production issues.
What we look for:
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Ruby preferred; Typescript/JavaScript a plus).
- Relevant production experience with large-scale Rails applications.
- Proficiency with at least one major cloud provider (AWS preferred).
- Strong understanding of observability tools (such as Datadog and Sentry) and practices.
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS).
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools (like CircleCI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (like Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible).
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
