Zinc is growing its Integrations team. Integrations with ATS and HRIS platforms such as Workday, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Lever and SmartRecruiters are one of our biggest levers for growth, and demand from Partnerships and Sales is outpacing what our current team can build. As an Integrations Engineer, you'll add the engineering capacity to change that. Your job is to increase the number and quality of Zinc's integrations. You'll design, build and scale connections with third-party platforms, and evolve our Partner API so partners can build on Zinc with less hand-holding. This is an engineering role. Support and onboarding sit with our dedicated Integration Support function in Partnerships, so your time goes on building, hardening and improving integrations. You'll also be the escalation point for issues support can't resolve. You'll work closely with Product, Partnerships and Integration Support, and report to the Engineering Manager for Integrations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building integrations end to end - Read partner API docs, spec with the PM, then build, test and release new integrations, from Greenhouse Harvest API upgrades to CV checks across ATSs.
  • Hardening what's live - Move existing integrations off deprecated mechanisms (such as Greenhouse polling to PATCH) and strengthen error handling, retries and idempotency.
  • Evolving the Partner API - Own endpoint design, versioning, webhooks, docs and sandbox so partners can build on Zinc with less hand-holding.
  • Building reusable patterns - Create shared connector and mapping layers that cut the cost of every new integration.
  • Giving support the tools - Build internal tooling and observability so Integration Support can diagnose issues themselves.
  • Being the escalation point - Root-cause and fix the issues Integration Support can't resolve. You're not the first line for customers.
  • Shaping what we build - Give Product and Partnerships technical feasibility input during discovery, through the team's planning process.
  • Raising the bar - Review code, set testing standards, and pick up occasional Vue/Nuxt work on integration settings screens.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Hard skills
  • Integration Engineering - You've built and maintained production integrations against third-party APIs you don't control, in code rather than config. You know the trade-offs: sync vs async, webhooks vs polling, retry strategies.
  • TypeScript / Node.js - Production experience. Our backend is TypeScript and we standardise across the codebase.
  • REST APIs & Webhooks - OAuth2, pagination, rate limits, retries and idempotency are second nature. They're core to every integration.
  • Data Mapping - You're comfortable moving data between JSON, XML and SOAP. Workday and iCIMS are XML/SOAP-heavy.
  • Testing - You're proficient with Jest and with contract and integration tests using mocks, because integrations fail silently.

How to prepare for a job interview at Zinc

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Zinc uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
