About the role and key responsibilities
As Zinc grows, the ambition is to professionalise its internal operational functions, including its finance function. The individual in this role will work closely with the Zinc Management Team, to help better inform business decisions, identifying problem areas and presenting recommendations to company management. The role will include:
- Preparing annual financial statements, income statements, balance sheets and other financial documents (through use of Xero)
- Management of Audit of fund entities
- Experience in intercompany reconciliation
- Measuring the company’s financial performance based on financial records
- Preparation of budgeting materials for business use
- Working with expert third parties where required, such as VAT and payroll
- Evaluating and monitoring financial information systems and recommending improvements where needed
- Communicating and interpreting financial data to non-financial managers
As Zinc builds this function, there is scope to alter current processes and software subscriptions based on the Finance Director’s preferred solutions.
Your superpowers
The candidate for this role will be:
- Qualified management or chartered accountant
- Strong understanding of management accounting principles
- Proficiency in accounting systems eg Xero
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Basic knowledge of partial exemption/exempt VAT and just general VAT knowledge
In addition, while Fund Management experience is beneficial, it is not essential, as this role will enable the individual to develop skills in:
- How a venture fund is capitalised and run
- How reporting to investors is carried out
- How a venture fund is measured and managed
Time commitment and salary
Time commitment: we can be flexible for the right person, our minimum requirement is 0.5 FTE
Annual salary: £80k-90k full-time, depending on experience
Employment: Zinc is open to a contract or employed status.
Working environment: minimum of 1 day/week in our Euston office, the rest can be flexible.
