What You Will Be Doing

Reporting to the Embedded Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering advanced embedded communications solutions within DTC’s high-performing engineering team based in Whiteley. As a Senior Digital Signal Processing Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing mission-critical wireless systems for defence and secure communications applications. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing advanced DSP algorithms, as well as developing bespoke waveforms tailored to specific operational requirements. Additionally, you will contribute to the continuous refinement and optimisation of our Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms, ensuring they deliver exceptional performance, flexibility, and resilience across diverse and demanding environments.

Key Areas of Experience

  • Algorithm Development – Design, implement, and validate advanced DSP algorithms using Python and/or MATLAB.
  • FPGA Development – Develop high-performance FPGA modules for DTC’s SDR platforms.
  • HDL Design – Proficient in VHDL/Verilog and scripting with Tcl for FPGA design workflows.
  • FPGA Toolchains – Experience with Xilinx and Altera (Intel) development environments and toolchains.
  • Embedded Software Engineering – Skilled in C/C++ programming for embedded systems, including Linux driver development and Windows-based applications; familiarity with UML is advantageous.
  • RF Systems Design – Strong understanding of RF design principles with practical implementation experience.
  • Test & Measurement – Competent in using frequency-domain and time-domain test equipment, such as spectrum analysers and oscilloscopes.

You are a highly capable and motivated engineer with a degree in Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a closely related discipline. You have a strong foundation in digital signal processing and embedded systems, with proven experience designing and implementing advanced DSP algorithms for high-performance applications. Your expertise extends to RF design principles, and you demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach. You thrive in technically complex environments and are committed to delivering innovative, high-reliability solutions for mission-critical communications. As a senior member of the team, you take pride in mentoring and supporting junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and capability development across the group. This is an office-based role with flexibility for occasional home working and requires the successful candidate to meet the eligibility criteria for UK Security Clearance.
