Zestec Renewable Energy, part of the Octopus Energy Generation (OEGen) distributed energy platform, is actively deploying capital and scaling its presence across the UK commercial and industrial renewable infrastructure market. As an independent power producer, we originate, develop, fund and manage commercial solar, battery energy storage and EV infrastructure solutions for complex, capital intensive environments.
We are seeking a high performing Business Development Manager to originate and close new PPA opportunities across the UK C&I market. This is a front line origination role focused on winning new business, not account management. You will be expected to identify, develop and convert opportunities in complex, multi stakeholder environments.
Your mandate:
- Originate and close new PPA opportunities across the UK C&I sector.
- Build and maintain a high quality pipeline capable of delivering consistent deal flow.
- Engage senior decision makers across finance, estates, sustainability and operations.
- Navigate long-cycle, multi stakeholder sales processes.
- Contribute to Zestec’s continued growth and capital deployment in the UK market.
You will operate as a core part of the commercial team, working directly with senior leadership to convert opportunities into deployed capital.
Core responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and engage target UK based clients aligned with our investment criteria.
- Develop relationships with senior decision makers across priority sectors (e.g. logistics, manufacturing, retail, infrastructure, industrial).
- Generate and qualify new opportunities through direct outreach, networks and market insight.
- Drive opportunities from initial engagement through to commercial close.
- This is a hunter role — success is defined by your ability to create opportunities, not rely on inbound or marketing generated leads.
- Lead complex, long cycle sales processes involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Understand client drivers (financial, operational, ESG) and position solutions accordingly.
- Work cross functionally (technical, legal, finance) to structure and progress opportunities.
- Actively drive deal momentum and remove barriers to close.
- Build and maintain a robust, high quality pipeline.
- Prioritise opportunities based on likelihood, value and strategic fit.
- Provide accurate forecasting and visibility on deal progression.
- Maintain disciplined CRM usage and reporting standards.
- Provide feedback on UK market trends, competitor activity and customer requirements.
- Contribute to refining value proposition and sector targeting.
- Work with marketing to improve messaging and campaign effectiveness.
About you:
We are looking for a commercially credible, high energy business developer with a track record of winning new business in complex B2B environments. You will demonstrate:
- A strong track record of originating and winning new business in long cycle, multi stakeholder sales environments.
- Experience in renewables, energy, infrastructure, finance or similarly complex sectors preferred.
- Proven ability to generate opportunities independently — not just convert inbound or manage accounts.
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders (C‑suite, finance, estates, sustainability).
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to articulate value in capital intensive propositions.
- High levels of resilience, drive and ownership.
- A disciplined approach to pipeline management and forecasting.
You are comfortable operating in performance driven environments where results are visible, measured and expected. You are comfortable being challenged on performance and can clearly evidence your contribution to won deals.
Leadership, Platform & Growth:
You will work directly with senior leadership and have access to institutional capital through OEGen. This role offers the opportunity to play a central role in continuing to scale Zestec’s UK portfolio and to increase your influence within a growing commercial platform.
