We are currently recruiting for a Senior or Principal Consultant specialising in Ecology and Biodiversity to join a leading, award-winning sustainability consultancy based in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ecology Consultant, Biodiversity Specialist, or Environmental Consultant to step into a senior role delivering high-impact sustainability, BNG (Biodiversity Net Gain), and ecological projects across the UK built environment sector.
The Role – Ecology & Biodiversity Consultant
As a Senior / Principal Ecology Consultant, you will take a leading role in delivering a wide range of ecology and biodiversity projects, including:
- Managing ecology and biodiversity projects from inception to completion
- Leading delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and BREEAM Ecology reports
- Producing EcIA (Ecological Impact Assessments), HRA (Habitats Regulations Assessments) and complex technical reports
- Using QGIS and biodiversity metrics to assess and map biodiversity net gain
- Supporting, mentoring, and developing junior consultants
- Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development and growth
This role offers the chance to work on complex, large-scale sustainability and environmental projects, contributing to meaningful biodiversity outcomes.
Key Requirements – Senior Ecology Consultant
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience in ecology consultancy or biodiversity consulting
- Strong track record delivering BNG assessments and ecological reporting
- Experience producing BREEAM Ecology assessments
- Proficiency in QGIS and biodiversity metric calculations
- Experience managing projects and working directly with clients
- Knowledge of UK planning policy and environmental legislation
- Ideally hold a protected species licence or experience supporting licensing
- Membership of CIEEM (or working towards Chartership)
