Our aim is to become a market leader in the provision of Electric Vehicle charging solutions to Local Authorities and businesses as part of our strategy to lead the transition to zero carbon. The HSEQ Advisor will assist the Senior HSEQ Advisor in advising both the operational and support service teams on all health and safety matters. The HSEQ Advisor will support the implementation of Zest HSEQ Management System, including policies, procedures and processes business wide and provide support as a centralised resource for HSEQ performance monitoring.

Assisting in the development and implementation of a strong and forward-thinking health and safety culture within the wider business so that HSEQ is part of the fabric of Zest, ensuring a holistic approach across all business functions/departments.

Key Accountabilities:

The role is responsible for the following:

  • Actively develop, support and lead activities aimed at making HSEQ a fundamental component within Zest, promoting and reinforcing a positive reporting and no blame HSEQ culture.
  • Strategically develop and recommend HSEQ targets, objectives and strategies in collaboration with the HSEQ Manager, Operations Director and Business Change & Assurance Director.
  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of relevant HSEQ legislation, industry best practice and subject expertise to ensure Zest's compliance obligations are met.
  • Support the implementation of the HSEQ Management System across all business functions to ensure compliance and maintenance of ISO certifications such as 9001, 14001 and 45001.
  • Drive continuous improvement by encouraging & supporting identification of opportunities for improvement across all business functions and working collaboratively with other departments to address recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including employees, clients & contractors, providing support & guidance as required.
  • Monitoring & measuring objectives, targets & safety performance proactively via audits & site visits and communicating performance through scheduled meetings.
  • Embedding proactive incident prevention behaviours across all teams through hazard observation awareness.
  • Production and delivery of HSEQ awareness training e.g. Drop-in Sessions, safety briefs & toolbox talks to the operational teams and the wider business.
  • Provide calm reactive response to any incident or accident, ensuring, through recognised investigative techniques, all underlying & root causes are identified & corrective/preventative actions are assigned and implemented.
  • Support the monitoring, maintenance, improvement and development of HSEQ systems e.g. Management System (SharePoint), Reporting Systems, Legal Registers, Environmental Compliance, Audit platforms etc.
  • Support the safe, high-quality delivery and continuous improvement of all projects, working closely with the Operational teams.
  • Monitor H&S performance and provide monthly H&S Reporting and trends.
  • Provide support for management of change through internal audit, impact assessment support and awareness training delivery.
  • Ad hoc duties and support as appropriate.
Outcome, Results and Key Performance Indicators:
  • HSEQ objectives & targets are met, maintained & safety performance is effectively communicated.
  • Successful implementation of the HSEQ Management System & processes using internal visits & audits in line with ISO Standards.
  • Retention of accreditations e.g. ISO 45001, 14001 & 9001 certification etc.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment and a positive HSEQ culture.
  • Collection of attendance data of safety briefings and drop-in sessions and communication with departments to ensure continuous improvement.
Key Relationships:
  • Internal: Provision of consistent, effective support & guidance to Operational departments both on and off site. Support sales and tenders with key elements of client HSEQ requirements, working with all business functions to ensure HSEQ is holistically implemented across all areas.
  • External: Developing collaborative relationships with contractors & clients during all phases of projects. Liaising and maintaining relationships with HSEQ related suppliers as needed.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • A working knowledge of CDM 2015.
  • Experience/knowledge of engineering/manufacturing operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of UK HSE regulations.
  • Understanding of ISO requirements and management systems.
  • Internal and external audit experience.
  • Development & delivery of HSEQ awareness training.
  • Determining solutions for risk reduction.
  • Quality Management awareness including developing a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Competent at managing stakeholder, customer and sub-contractor relationships and expectations.
  • Knowledge or experience of incident investigation.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Clear and concise reporting (verbally and in writing).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Lists etc.

Qualifications:
  • Essential: NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience supporting Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality activities in a practical operational setting.
  • Desirable: IOSH Membership, IEMA/NEBOSH Environmental Awareness / Equivalent, Auditing training, Incident Investigation Training, CSCS Card, Other H&S training (SSSTS, SMSTS, NRSWA, etc).
