Humdinger Sherburn is hiring a Hygiene Manager to play a key role in strengthening standards, developing our people, and supporting the delivery of ambitious site goals. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be the site authority for hygiene, with end-to-end responsibility for environmental and equipment cleaning standards. You will lead site-wide hygiene strategy and execution, ensuring audit-ready compliance at all times. Operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment, this role is ideal for a resilient leader who enjoys driving improvements and supporting a team’s development. You will lead and coach a hygiene team with varying levels of experience, setting clear standards and applying a fair, supportive leadership approach to deliver consistently high hygiene performance.

Position type: Permanent, Full Time

Working Hours: Monday - Friday 08:30 - 16:30 (flexibility required to support site needs)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the site hygiene team consisting of a Senior Hygiene Operative, Security Gate House Keeper and 10 Hygiene Operatives and Asset Hygiene Operatives across various shift patterns to deliver cleaning schedules to required standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with customer (retail and co-manufacturing), legal, and certification hygiene requirements.
  • Manage hygiene documentation, CICs, COSHH, and training matrices.
  • Control hygiene chemicals, consumables, and budgets effectively.
  • Support and lead customer, retailer, and external audits.
  • Investigate hygiene non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage pest control contractors and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing hygiene within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and COSHH requirements.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing teams.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and managing technical documentation.

Desirable:

  • Customer or retailer hygiene training (e.g. M&S Hygiene Course).
  • Experience working with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
