We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Aircraft Engineering Integration Team in Kemble. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end integration of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems into aircraft platforms. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless system compatibility, safety, and certification readiness. This is a critical role in advancing ZeroAvia's mission to deliver certified, zero-emission aircraft systems for commercial use.
Responsibilities:
- Apply skills to deliver clear, structured, and communicated systems engineering documentation across aircraft, system, and item levels.
- Develop and maintain system simulation models, controls models, and manage their integration with the wider system engineering development.
- Work closely with Airworthiness, Certification, Systems Safety, System Test, and downstream engineering to deliver lean system development in line with the guidance of ARP4754A/B and ARP4761/A.
- Continuously upgrade and update process and planning documentation based on iterative maturity development.
- Act as mentor across business functions on matters relating to lifecycle, development assurance, requirements management, and consistently demonstrate working-level best practice.
Requirements:
- Please only apply if you have experience in the aviation sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in the application of Systems lifecycle processes (V-cycle), with a particular emphasis on the early phases of the V model.
- Previous experience within developmental lifecycles characterized by low maturity inputs is preferred.
- Proficient in aircraft control systems (preferably engine controls), including the capture of control functions and requirements, as well as the authoring of controller specifications to facilitate item development.
- Familiarity with aircraft or engine performance simulation and validation would be desirable.
- A proven track record of working effectively in small, high-performance teams is essential.
- Experience with certified or in-certification aircraft systems, including propeller, electrical power, flight control/avionics; or certified or in-certification powerplant systems, such as rotating components, engine control, and cooling/lubrication is considered advantageous.
- Extensive experience in the elicitation, capture, and management of requirement sets at all levels (aircraft, system, item), with a focus on ensuring their validation in accordance with completeness and correctness standards.
- Robust experience in the development of system architecture, functions, and interfaces, encompassing stakeholder management with downstream engineering teams, as well as assumption and risk management.
- Knowledge of system safety analysis techniques (FHA, FTA, FMEA) and reliability assessments is also desired.
- Considerable experience in managing systems engineering elements in software-centric environments, such as RMT (Polarion, DOORS) and CAE (Matlab Simulink, Simcenter).
- Strong aptitude for close collaboration with, and providing structure and clarity to, multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
- Additionally, a robust willingness to adapt based on stakeholder feedback and rigorous scrutiny is essential in this position.
- Experience in aviation-intended electric propulsion systems, fuel cell systems, or EVTOLs is considered a valuable asset.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in system safety engineering, particularly in the aerospace sector.
Benefits:
- Private health and dental care - get access to services and support when you need them.
- Mental health support - enjoy a culture where positive mental health is front of mind with our trained Mental Health First Aiders, Employee Assistance Programmes and wellbeing support.
