A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for us to recruit to a Band 6 Prehabilitation Exercise Professional (Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist) to work in the award winning Prehabilitation Service at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust. NUH launched its Cancer Prehabilitation service in April 2022 and since then has supported over 2000 patients to prepare and optimise their health and wellbeing ahead of major surgery. The service has recently expanded its scope to also include support for people preparing for radical radiotherapy treatment.
A large focus of the service is based on improving the cardiovascular fitness of each patient by providing high quality, evidence based, intensive exercise interventions. Prehabilitation aligns with the fundamental strategies and ambitions of NHS England, Nottinghamshire ICS and NUH and is underpinned by NUH's clear commitment and investment into Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy.
You will be supported by the Prehab Team lead, Matron and Head of Service. You will also work closely with other professionals from across clinical specialties including Cancer Nurse Specialists and with Exercise Practitioners at venues across Nottinghamshire.
Responsibilities
- Manage a prehabilitation caseload, including conducting assessments and delivering both one-to-one and group exercise sessions.
- Provide telephone and virtual support to patients undergoing Prehabilitation.
- Work alongside the Prehabilitation multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
- Work autonomously in line with Prehab guidance and provide day-to-day supervision of other unregistered team members, including any relevant training.
- Deliver high quality, clinically effective care and patient experience, utilising research and collaborating with colleagues in everyday practice.
- Act as a role model and clinical resource, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development within the team and relevant colleagues.
Qualifications and requirements
- A degree or MSc in Physiotherapy with HCPC registration or an equivalent qualification as an Exercise Physiologist.
- Knowledge and interest in oncology and cancer care, with expertise in exercise prescription.
- Ability to work autonomously and to supervise other unregistered members of the team, with relevant training as required.
- Experience delivering services to support prehabilitation and the ability to collaborate with a range of clinical staff.
