E17 is a 10-bedded ward specialising in Paediatric Renal and Urology, part of the Nottingham Children's Hospital, the first Children's Hospital in Europe to be accredited the Pathway to Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre. This is for two posts - 1.6 WTE available.

You must be an RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience of working in a Children's Hospital setting as a Band 5 or Band 6 nurse. You must be able to lead a team, demonstrating excellent organizational and clinical skills. You will be expected to co-ordinate care on the ward and deputise and support the Ward Manager. Main duties of the job:

  • Ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients and, in collaboration with the Ward Manager, identify the common issues which affect the quality of care, devising clear action plans to address any shortcomings.
  • In collaboration with the Ward Manager, ensure that the patient has a satisfactory experience by evaluating patient processes and the pathway of care.
  • Support the Ward Manager in ensuring clinical audit takes place in line with the Trust's requirements to improve practice.
  • Be a point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff acting as a resource for problems, needs and able to clearly present the patient's view to others.
  • Support the Ward Manager in ensuring the development and ongoing management of work rosters that provide appropriate safe staff cover.

Person Specification:

  • Communication and relationship: Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, basic IT skills, and effective communication with patients, carers, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Training and Qualification: Diploma or working towards a degree, evidence of performance reviews, EPALS/APLS or willing to complete on next available course.
  • Experience: Has had experience of being the Nurse in Charge, evidence of Mentorship or SSSAE, evidence of doing a link role, evidence of working beyond registration.
  • Analytical and judgement skills: Able to lead a team, prioritise and respond to planned and unplanned situations.
  • Planning and organisational skills: Can prioritise and manage own time and workload and that of the team.
