Overview

The post covers Nottingham University Hospitals at Queens Medical Centre and the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospital. The Acute Medicine Unit has four clinical areas, totaling 85 beds, including Level 1 monitored beds. There is an in-reach function to the Emergency Department and a triage role for acute admissions, with high patient turnover and interaction with all adult specialties across the Trust.

The Infectious Diseases and OPAT Department is based at City Campus. The City Campus ward has 13 beds with seven en-suite side rooms, five with monitored negative pressure ventilation. Patients include HIV, tuberculosis, returned travellers, community and hospital acquired infections, and pyrexia of unknown origin. Duties include inpatient care at City Campus, outreach to Queens Medical Centre, and out-of-hours on-call in rotation with existing Consultants.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Existing Consultants rotate between roles and contribute to fixed clinics and the on-call rota.
  • Time may be spent caring for Infectious Diseases inpatients, with periods in OPAT, Microbiology/Virology, or Acute Medicine.
  • This post combines 2 PAs in Acute Medicine at Queens Medical Centre with 8 PAs for Infectious Diseases inpatient care at City Campus, plus outreach to QMC and clinic activity at City Campus.
  • Outreach aims to aid patient flow and earlier specialist review.
  • When on duty at City Campus there is also a contribution to clinics there.
  • The on-call commitment for Infectious Diseases is 1:7.5, supported by Infectious Diseases Junior staff.
  • This post is in Category B and includes an on-call allowance (currently 2%), with recent diary calculations for weekend on-call around 0.6 PA.
