Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen on the QMC campus for a staff nurse in Interventional Radiology Theatres. As a Registered Nurse in Interventional Radiology Theatres you will be responsible for supporting your line manager in delivering safe and high quality nursing care to our patients who are undergoing interventional procedures. The ideal candidate must be a team player, who is flexible, adaptable and with the drive to go that extra mile for our patients. With an excellent senior nurse team in place, we are able to offer a supportive learning environment. You will receive a comprehensive induction programme supported by experienced members of the team and an 8 week supernumerary period. The service is currently Mon-Fri plus an on call service for out of hours. Responsibilities
- Work alongside the radiologist as a scrub nurse with invasive radiological procedures such as venous access, embolisation, angioplasty and mechanical thrombectomy.
- Provide pre and post-operative care in recovery and supporting interventional work in CT and ultrasound.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Be an effective role model and provide regular excellent clinical care.
- Ensuring a safe environment is maintained.
- Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient\\\’s condition.
- Ensure that all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to individual patient care plan.
- Maintaining accurate documentation.
- Ensuring infection prevention policies are maintained.
- Flexible hours, particularly providing an out of hours on-call nursing service, as required by the department to meet the needs of patients.
- To participate in the link nurse programme i.e. Diabetic and Infection Control.
- Understand local safety rules, protective clothing and equipment (including wearing a lead apron for several hours at a time) with regards to working in an area using radiation.
- Administer IV sedation to patients undergoing specified procedures in line with Radiology protocol (e.g., angioplasty, PTCs, cerebral embolisation, Radiological Inserted Gastrostomy).
- Assist the Radiologist as scrub nurse with invasive radiological procedures such as venous access, embolisation, stenting and biopsies.
- Perform post procedural care and observations on the sedated patient.
- Be responsible for maintaining pharmacy stock within the Department.
- Work in other areas of the Radiology Department as required, including CT and Ultrasound.
