Zero Waste Scotland, Scotland’s circular economy expert, is looking for an experienced individual with strong engagement and influencing skills to be responsible for supporting citizen-based initiatives as we develop an intervention plan to guide long-term work on household food waste reduction behaviour change.

Over 60% of food that is wasted in Scotland comes from our homes. Engaging with the people of Scotland on the importance of food waste reduction through behaviour change interventions is one of our main priorities. Collaborating with others is one of our key strengths, so you’ll engage and work closely with internal teams and partner with other key stakeholders such as local authorities, trade bodies, and businesses to amplify our work and influence citizens.

This exciting role will be integral to changing the perception of food and food waste reduction within our homes. This role needs a dynamic, people-oriented individual, skilled in engaging and building relationships with key partners and stakeholders in the industry, community setting, as well as at home, to bring citizens, employees, students, and leaders with them on the food waste reduction journey. You will also have a good understanding of the environmental impact of food waste and broader systems thinking.

Key Responsibilities:
  • You will focus primarily on Citizen Engagement and the ways in which we can influence change at household level in relation to food waste reduction.
  • With your experience in Citizen Engagement and using behaviour change techniques to drive change, you’ll be part of multiple project groups striving towards a similar goal.
  • You’ll bring your knowledge and enthusiasm, representing Zero Waste Scotland's Food Systems team internally and externally.
  • You will be working in direct partnership with internal teams and external stakeholders to manage existing projects aimed at reducing household food waste.
  • You’ll work closely with our Research and Evaluation teams, making sure our activity is based on research with monitoring and evaluation in place.
  • You will be responsible for a set of projects aimed at enhancing activity targeted to the citizens of Scotland on food waste reduction measures.
  • You’ll have a critical role in stakeholder management and engagement to bring our Partners with us on our fight against food waste.
  • You will develop, plan, deliver, monitor, report on, and grow a range of Zero Waste Scotland’s food waste based-behaviour change activities aimed at the citizens of Scotland.
  • As a key contact in this specialist area, you will be specifically responsible for managing contracts, providing expert advice and support, and influencing and negotiating with stakeholders to adopt new measures.
