As the Head of Procurement and Trading team, you will have a critical part to play in managing and directing the Procurement and Trading functions to support ZTP achieve its goals. A pivotal part of the role will be in aligning and integrating the Procurement and Trading teams into a unified, high-performing function. This strategic move aims to enhance operational efficiency, streamline processes, and support ZTP in achieving its business objectives to enhance the service offered to our customers. You will be expected to demonstrate proven leadership experience in building and developing highperforming teams, managing risk and compliance, understanding customer and supplier strategies, and driving innovation and service improvements. These competencies are critical in leading the integrated functions and delivering long-term value for ZTP. In-depth knowledge of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and renewable energy generation is essential to support ZTP’s sustainability goals and enhance the customer journey. This expertise allows you to integrate clean energy solutions into procurement and trading strategies, delivering both financial value and environmental benefits to customers. Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills are crucial for successfully managing the procurement function, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering strong relationships across all organisational levels. Your ability to influence stakeholders—from operational teams to executive leadership and suppliers—will be key to aligning energy strategies and achieving the customers goals. Success in this role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex market dynamics. By unifying the Procurement and Trading teams, you will unlock synergies, drive innovation, and position ZTP for continued sustainable growth and market leadership. Key Responsibilities: Decision Making, Influencing & Leadership: *Lead the procurement and trading teams, fostering a high-performance culture. Set goals for the team that align with the Consultancy and wider ZTP goals. *Mentor and develop team members, promoting professional growth and ensuring high performance standards. *Effectively manage resource allocation, workload distribution, and project assignments to optimise team productivity and client satisfaction. Strategy, Objectives, Operations & Continuous Improvement: *Design and execute risk management strategies. *Develop and implement the procurement and delivery of a PPA, ensuring clients receive a fair value price – from PPA market research and analysis, deal structuring, negotiation and contracting, profiling consumption base to ensure the best fit PPA, and sourcing PPAs in line with clients’ generation/location requirements right through to Fair Price confirmation. *Identify potential energy developers, analyse market trends, regulatory changes, and pricing mechanisms, and assess risks, including market, credit, and operational risks, related to PPAs. *Design PPA structures that align with the needs of both buyers and sellers (e.g., fixed volume, as-generated, baseload structures); Incorporating price hedging strategies and balancing mechanisms to manage risks. *Present PPA proposals to multiple different internal stakeholders and shareholders *Lead negotiations for terms such as pricing, volume, contract tenure, and settlement methods (e.g., pay-as-produced vs fixed delivery). *Navigate nuances like negative price clauses, curtailment, force majeure provisions, and grid connection risks. *Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate project economics and contractual feasibility and model different PPA structures and price scenarios. *Ensure contracts comply with applicable regulations and standards. *Monitor PPA performance and report on key metrics (e.g., energy delivery, financial settlements, environmental benefits). *Collaborate with suppliers and/or third parties to analyse the balancing/shaping of the generation output from the renewable schemes and present the analysis and recommendations to the client. *Review options around Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) trading and Carbon Offsetting and retiring them in line with the Ofgem rules. *Ensure the development of regular and consistent internal and external KPI/SLA reporting. *Implement strategic and tactical plans with clear goals, objectives, and measurements. *Drive innovation in procurement and trading processes, leveraging our software. *Stay updated with industry developments, to ensure that the ZTP systems and products are being developed to meet our clients’ requirements. *Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness across the team, optimising processes, systems,and resources to maximise productivity and minimise costs. *Monitor market trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for clients. Collaboration, Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management: *Collaborate with the Sales and Account Management teams to understand client requirements and develop tailored energy procurement, hedging and risk management strategies. *Provide expert advice and guidance to clients regarding market dynamics, pricing trends, and risk management strategies. *Develop and maintain strong relationships with energy suppliers, PPA developers, and balancing parties to enable the effective delivery of contracted services. *Work closely with Account Management teams to ensure client satisfaction and retention. *Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders. *Present procurement and trading strategies to clients or prospective clients, explaining complex concepts in a clear and actionable manner. *Stay updated with supplier offerings, negotiate favourable trading terms on flex contracts. *Collaborate with the Consultancy Leadership Team to ensure consistently high standards of service and product excellence. Key Skills and Competencies: Essential: *Strong understanding of the energy market, including market trends, regulatory changes, and risk management strategies. *Strong understanding of fixed and flex products. *Advanced knowledge of energy markets, trading strategies, and regulatory environments. Desirable: *Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the UK energy market is desirable. *Strong knowledge of non-commodity charges and their impact on energy costs. *Understanding of forecasting prices, based on market projections. Skills & Abilities: *Excellent leadership and people management skills. *Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. *Proficiency in financial modelling and energy forecasting. *Ability to evaluate risks, including price basis risk and profile imbalances. *Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills. *Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to nonexperts. *Build and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels *Emotional intelligence *Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey market insights and trading strategies to stakeholders. *Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy *Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex market information and identify trading opportunities. *Proactive and think outside the box *Works well under pressure *Critical thinking and problem-solving *Strategic thinking *Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management *Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Experience Required: Please note: Only candidates with prior experience in the energy industry will be considered for this role. Essential: *10 years+ experience in energy procurement and trading. *Proven track record in leading teams and delivering strategic procurement and trading initiatives. *Proven experience in running tenders on PPAs and negotiating with energy suppliers Desirable: *Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a senior leader (managing multiple teams) Education/ Qualifications & Training: *Proficient in data analysis, using tools such as Excel, SQL, or Python, to analyse market data and generate reports.
