About the role and team
Sitting in the Commercial Performance team and reporting to the Head of Commercial Performance, this is a commercial ownership role — not a traditional finance position. As an Anglophone Africa Regional P&L Owner, you carry the number for your region and are accountable for hitting it. You act as the commercial architect for your region; in conjunction with Marketing and BD, set the commercial agenda, mobilising every function around you, and removing roadblocks. You are the primary commercial voice for your region, driving senior peer engagement with functional leaders and managing internal stakeholders to translate deep customer and market insights into strategy and execution. This is a new function at Zepz, and you'll have a real hand in defining how it operates — building the playbook as you go, balancing customer needs with business reality.
What you bring to the table
- A proven track record of managing a P&L in a high-growth environment — fintech, payments, or adjacent preferred.
- Data-literate and comfortable driving high-stakes conversations with Marketing, BD, and Insights - you translate data into clear decisions, not just observations.
- You act more like a Country Manager than an analyst; you don't just coordinate—you drive results.
What you will focus on
- Explicit budget and full P&L accountability for the Anglophone Africa region — accountable for revenue, CAC, new customers, unit economics, customer lifetime value, and other relevant trading metrics.
- Defining monthly corridor targets and the investment envelope needed to achieve them.
- Briefing Marketing on regional needs and supporting profitable growth.
- Partner with Business Development as they build out strategies for new opportunities and mitigating risk.
- Partnering with Data Insights to generate hypotheses, interpret performance, build and pivot strategies based on corridor analysis.
- Building business cases for key initiatives and influencing cross-functional prioritisation through customer-centric, impact-driven frameworks. This includes building financial models.
Bonus Points
- Deep cultural or economic understanding of markets such as Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe or other high-volume corridors.
- Experience navigating the licensing or compliance landscape of international money transfers.
- You’ve previously built the reporting frameworks or "operating rhythms" for a regional commercial team.
- Fluency in a primary language within your assigned region is a significant plus.
AI Literacy & Tools
As Zepz continues to build AI into how we work, we expect everyone to engage with it as a core part of their role. For this position we are looking for:
- A genuine curiosity about AI and how it can be applied in your area of work — from accelerating analysis and insight generation, to improving how we design and deliver processes and communications.
- Practical experience using AI tools in a professional context — whether to connect information, draft content, build frameworks, or create insights from data. We want people who actively use AI to increase productivity, not those who are waiting to be told to.
- Strong AI literacy — an understanding of what AI assistants can and cannot do, how to prompt effectively, and how to critically evaluate AI-generated output before using it.
- Awareness of the ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in the workplace, particularly in the context of sensitive data, customer experience, and compliance.
- Prior experience using Claude (Anthropic) is a nice-to-have but not essential — what matters most is that you are genuinely engaged with AI as a tool, comfortable experimenting, and eager to share what works with your wider team.
If you want to join us in our journey to help break barriers in financial access and improve lives globally, there's no better place or time to join. Our global team of 800+ people is spread across six continents. We aspire to hire the best mix of people from former Olympians to YouTube influencers and we speak over twenty languages. This incredible diversity isn't a bonus; it's the engine that lets us serve the world.
