A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Camden is seeking a dedicated Interventions Teaching Assistant to join their Year 5 team from September 2026. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and wider support staff, delivering both in-class support and targeted interventions to pupils who require additional academic, behavioural, and emotional support. The Year 5 class has a high level of SEND needs, making this an ideal opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with a range of additional needs.

The Role

As an Interventions Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence, and make strong academic and personal progress. You will support children within the classroom, deliver small group and one-to-one interventions, and adapt your approach to meet individual learning and communication needs. Working alongside the class teacher and a team of additional support staff, you will contribute to creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted intervention sessions to individuals and small groups to support progress in core subjects.
  • Support teaching and learning within a Year 5 classroom.
  • Work closely with pupils with SEND, SEMH, and additional learning needs.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining high expectations and clear boundaries.
  • Encourage pupils' confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
  • Support behaviour management using positive and restorative strategies.
  • Assist pupils during whole-class lessons, group work, and one-to-one activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider classroom team to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
  • Demonstrate initiative by identifying opportunities to support pupils and staff throughout the school day.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant within a primary school.
  • Experience delivering academic interventions and supporting pupil progress.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive attitude with the confidence to use your own initiative.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Position: Teaching Assistant

Setting: Mainstream Primary School

Working Hours: 08:30am – 16:00pm (Full-Time) 15:30pm on Fridays

Pay: Minimum £110

Start Date: 2nd September 2026

Contract: Full Academic Year (Long-Term)

Trial Days: Selected candidates will be invited to attend an interview and observation session as part of the recruitment process.
