We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join the specialist SEN provision within an outstanding mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Hackney.

The Sunshine Room is a calm, engaging, and sensory-rich environment where children are supported academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally through personalised and nurturing approaches. Staff within the provision work closely together to create a calm, supportive, and engaging environment where children feel understood, valued, and celebrated for their individuality.

Job Description:

  • Support children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, speech and language difficulties, and sensory processing needs
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support within the Sunshine Room provision
  • Assist pupils with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the school day
  • Deliver sensory-based learning and play activities tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Support phonics, literacy, numeracy, and communication-based interventions
  • Use visual timetables, PECs, communication boards, and structured routines to support learning
  • Encourage the development of independence, confidence, and social interaction skills
  • Support outdoor learning, sensory circuits, movement breaks, and play-based activities
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and engaging learning environment
  • Support pupils during unstructured times including lunch, transitions, and playground activities
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional wellbeing and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and parents/carers
  • Observe, monitor, and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Promote positive behaviour using nurturing and trauma-informed approaches
  • Ensure safeguarding and health & safety procedures are always followed

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant in Sunshine Room Provision

School Type: Mainstream Primary School with Specialist SEN Provision

Working Hours: 08:30am – 15:30pm (Full-Time)

Pay: Β£110 minimum daily rate

Start Date: Immediate Start

Contract: Full Academic Year (Long-Term)

Trial Days: Selected candidates will be invited to attend paid trial day(s) during July 2026 as part of the recruitment process.
