As a Senior NoSQL Database Administrator, you will have strong expertise in Couchbase and Cassandra to manage and support large‑scale, business‑critical database platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working in production environments, supporting high‑availability clusters, and collaborating with application, infrastructure, and vendor teams. This role involves end‑to‑end ownership of NoSQL platforms, including installation, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring, and incident resolution across production and non‑production environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Couchbase Administration
- Install, configure, and administer Couchbase clusters across production and non‑production environments.
- Design and support high availability and replication using XDCR and inter‑cluster replication.
- Create and manage buckets, configure replication policies, and handle data distribution.
- Perform failover and rebalance operations during incidents, upgrades, and capacity expansion.
- Manage user access and security using RBAC.
- Monitor Couchbase environments using Couchbase Web Console, iCinga, Nimsoft, and other monitoring tools.
- Use CLI and REST APIs to manage and troubleshoot Couchbase clusters.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for complex production issues and version upgrades.
- Support Couchbase versions 5.x, 6.x, and 7.x.
- Add and decommission nodes while ensuring data consistency and availability.
- Create and manage keyspaces based on application requirements.
- Perform routine and planned maintenance activities including repair, compaction, backup, and restore.
- Work with nodetool, CQL, and SSTable utilities for cluster management and troubleshooting.
- Implement backup strategies aligned with application availability and cost requirements.
- Handle user management and security for Cassandra clusters.
- Monitoring, Automation & Support
- Develop and maintain health‑check and monitoring shell scripts.
- Monitor production environments using tools such as Splunk, ELK, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Provide production support in ITIL‑based environments, ensuring SLAs are met.
- Troubleshoot database and performance issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
- Participate in on‑call rotations, maintenance windows, and emergency support as required.
- Collaboration & Operations
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, OS, and middleware teams.
- Coordinate during OS patching, database upgrades, and infrastructure changes.
- Follow change, incident, and problem management processes using tools like ServiceNow.
- Maintain clear documentation and contribute to operational best practices.
Technical Skills Required
- 8+ years of experience in NoSQL database administration.
- Strong, proven hands‑on experience with Couchbase and Apache Cassandra.
- Proven experience managing large, production‑grade NoSQL clusters.
- Solid understanding of high availability, replication, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Proven experience with Linux/Unix environments.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (iCinga, Nimsoft, Splunk, ELK).
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Experience working in ITIL/SLA‑driven production environments.
