Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: Competitive (DOE)

A growing engineering business is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join its expanding team. This is a hands–on role offering the opportunity to take ownership of bespoke engineering projects from concept and design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Working closely with engineering, production, suppliers and customers, you'll play a key role in delivering high–quality technical solutions across a range of industrial applications.

About the Role

  • Manage engineering projects from initial handover through to completion.
  • Design bespoke mechanical systems using 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Produce technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
  • Carry out engineering calculations and component selection.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors and internal engineering teams.
  • Support installation, commissioning and technical problem–solving.
  • Monitor project programmes, budgets and delivery milestones.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to product improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Project management experience for engineering or installation projects.
  • Background in mechanical engineering, HVAC, building services or specialist engineered equipment.
  • Proficient with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Inventor.
  • Experience producing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics or ventilation systems.
  • Excellent project planning, organisational and problem–solving skills.
  • Confident working with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.

Desirable

  • Experience with HVAC, air handling or environmental control systems.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations, CE/UKCA requirements, EMC or Machinery Directives.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and motor drives.
