We are looking for a hands-on Laboratory & Test Technician for a specialist engineering client. This is a practical role working across laboratories, cleanrooms, and vacuum facilities, supporting engineers with test preparation, equipment operation, maintenance, calibration and fault-finding.
About the Role
- Set up, operate, maintain and troubleshoot High Vacuum (HV) and Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) systems.
- Carry out helium leak testing and leak localisation.
- Operate vacuum pumps, gauges, RGA and mass spectrometer equipment.
- Install, configure and verify pressure, temperature and vacuum instrumentation.
- Set up motor controllers, motion systems, drives and DAQ systems.
- Support thermal vacuum, tribology, contamination and environmental testing.
- Assemble mechanical fixtures, test rigs and laboratory equipment.
- Assemble electronic hardware, wiring harnesses and instrumentation.
- Carry out equipment commissioning, calibration, verification and fault-finding.
- Maintain calibration records, measurement traceability and support uncertainty assessments.
- Assist with laboratory infrastructure, maintenance and continuous improvement.
About you
- Degree, HNC, HND, NVQ, BTEC, Apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Vacuum Technology, Electronics, Instrumentation, Physics or a related discipline.
- Practical hands-on experience in a laboratory, workshop or engineering environment.
- Strong experience in mechanical assembly and test-rig construction.
- Experience with electronic hardware assembly, wiring and instrumentation.
- Experience commissioning, configuring and calibrating test equipment.
- Hands-on HV/UHV vacuum experience.
- Experience with RGA/mass spectrometry and ideally helium leak testing.
- Experience with DAQ systems and/or control software.
- Knowledge of cleanroom operations, contamination control, metrology and calibration traceability is advantageous.
- Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
