Location: Stevenage (On-Site Working)

Salary: Up to £45,000 (Depending on Experience)

On behalf of a client, we are seeking a Development Engineer to help bring transformative technology to life. This hands-on role involves designing and executing tests and experiments on prototypes and test rigs, analysing results, and implementing improvements for a one of a kind product which will have huge impact in the medical field moving forward. The role is diverse, encompassing mechanical and electrical build, fault diagnosis and resolution, test design, instrumentation, data analysis, and proposing enhancements. An ideal candidate will have both mechanical and electrical skills. Initially, the Development Engineer will manage pre-production prototypes, hardware, and consumables. As the project progresses, responsibilities will include commissioning devices for customer deployment as my client prepares to launch their products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, modify, and build rigs and prototypes, involving mechanical, electrical, and electronic tasks.
  • Commission and troubleshoot prototypes and test rigs.
  • Conduct development tests on prototypes.
  • Communicate findings, issues, and suggestions for improvements to the Product Development team.
  • Develop test protocols and produce detailed test reports.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Practical experience in mechanical and electronic prototype assembly, including soldering, wiring, and tool use.
  • Experience in developing, fault-finding, and iteratively testing prototypes or test rigs.
  • Strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems, reading technical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to design and execute test protocols, analyse data, and document results clearly.
  • Experience working within product development environments, especially in R&D, prototyping, or testing teams.
  • Knowledge of lab safety protocols and quality standards such as ISO 9001.
  • Familiarity with CAD or wiring diagram software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, EPLAN).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams and providing constructive feedback to engineers and designers.
