Role Overview:
Zenovo are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their client in Cambridge who design and manufacture globally recognised consumer products. An ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of commercial experience in a product development environment, having been involved in taking products through from concept to manufacturing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with the wider engineering team (Electronics & Software) to develop and test new product concepts.
- Create product designs, feasibility studies, and prototypes, improving them through testing and feedback.
- Design reliable, manufacturable products that meet performance and compliance requirements.
- Use 3D CAD, engineering drawings, and prototyping to develop practical design solutions.
- Select suitable materials and manufacturing methods, including injection moulding, die casting, extrusion, and sheet metal.
- Maintain accurate CAD models and engineering documentation.
- Carry out engineering analyses such as tolerance studies, FMEA, DFSS, mould flow reviews, and FEA.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles, create Bills of Materials, and support tooling and product approval activities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and suppliers to support production and resolve technical issues.
Experience Required:
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (Degree, HND, or HNC) with product development experience.
- 3+ years' experience developing electrical or electro-mechanical products.
- Strong SolidWorks skills, including solid and surface modelling.
- Experience with injection moulding, die casting, extrusion, and sheet metal design.
- Knowledge of FEA and engineering simulation.
- Experience with handheld consumer products is advantageous.
- Understanding of product manufacturing and standards is beneficial.
- CFD, mould flow analysis, and supplier collaboration experience are desirable.
