Electronics Technician
£40,000
Warwickshire
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Technician to join our multidisciplinary design and development team. This is a hands-on role working in a creative, fast-paced R&D environment rather than a production setting. You will support the design, development, testing, and modification of electronic systems across multiple projects.
Our client is looking for someone that is skilled at under-the-microscope soldering and they need someone who can do the board build/rework/repair of PCBs with tiny components.
This role suits someone who is practical, adaptable, and collaborative, with a passion for building, modifying, and testing electronic prototypes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in a design and development (R&D) environment, collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and project teams.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, responding to varied requests throughout the day.
- Interpret high-level briefs and proactively seek additional technical information where required.
- Hand assemble, populate, modify, and rework PCBs, including fine-pitch surface-mount components and BGA packages.
- Perform manual PCB modifications, including circuit changes, cut-and-strap rework, and construction of prototype circuits.
- Build, modify, and repair small batches of prototype PCBs, cables, devices, and test fixtures.
- Maintain accurate build records, including PCB modification histories and assembly states.
- Test and fault-find electronic circuits, documenting results using standard laboratory test equipment.
- Design, build, and safely commission the electrical and electronic aspects of test rigs, demonstrators, and exhibition models, ranging from small desktop devices to full-scale mock-ups.
- Support the day-to-day operation of the electronics laboratory, including:
- Ordering components and PCB assemblies
- Maintaining lab equipment
- Coordinating calibration and repairs
- Carry out PCB layout tasks and assist with component library management using Altium Designer.
Skills & Experience:
- Extensive hands-on experience in fine-pitch hand soldering and PCB rework, including BGA components.
- Strong practical knowledge of electronic circuits and systems.
- Experience with cut-and-strap circuit modifications and prototype development.
- A positive, can-do attitude, with excellent time management and attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for the full product development lifecycle, from concept through delivery.
- A recognised qualification in Electronics (HNC, HND, or equivalent).
- Some experience using PCB layout and electronic design tools.
- Altium Designer experience is desirable, but training can be provided.
