The opportunity

We're recruiting a Workshop Engineer for a global leader in medical imaging, diagnostics and healthcare technology. Based at the company's Bedford site, you'll take ownership of the UK workshop, preparing, configuring and testing medical imaging equipment before it reaches NHS and private healthcare customers. Working across X-ray, ultrasound and diagnostic systems, this is a hands-on technical role combining PC and network configuration, software testing, image quality checks, fault-finding and practical engineering. You'll work closely with Project Realisation, Field Service, Product Management and Sales teams. With full training provided, there is also a proven progression route into Field Service Engineering, including opportunities to support customer sites once you're fully trained.

What you'll be doing

  • Pre-stage, configure and test X-ray, ultrasound and IVD equipment before customer delivery.
  • Configure PCs and connect systems to networks, including third-party integrations.
  • Carry out software testing and image quality checks.
  • Diagnose and resolve network, software and hardware faults.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, repairs and upgrades on demo and loan equipment.
  • Prepare demonstration equipment for account managers and the sales team, sometimes at short notice.
  • Support product testing and validation during New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Complete build sheets, QA records and validation documentation in line with ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Maintain test equipment calibration and process spare parts returns.
  • Support Field Service Engineers on customer sites once trained.

Equipment you'll work with

  • Digital X-ray systems, including fixed and mobile systems
  • Ultrasound systems
  • IVD desktop blood analysers
  • Integrated PCs and workstations
  • Network and third-party integrations
  • Demo and loan equipment

What we're looking for

We're looking to speak with hands-on engineers who combine strong PC and networking skills with practical engineering ability and are looking to build a long-term career in healthcare technology. At least 2 years' hands-on technical experience, ideally in IT/desktop engineering, AV, systems integration, EBME/medical engineering, electronics or military communications.

  • Strong PC and networking skills, including configuring PCs, connecting systems to networks and diagnosing connectivity issues.
  • Experience diagnosing software errors and hardware faults.
  • HNC, HND or degree in Engineering, IT or Networking, or a relevant networking qualification such as CompTIA Network+ or CCNA.
  • Basic practical engineering skills and confidence using tools and working with hardware.
  • A self-motivated, organised and flexible approach, with the ability to respond to last-minute requests.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Must live within approximately one hour's commute of Bedford.

Package and benefits

  • Basic salary: £35,000
  • Annual performance bonus: 10%
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life Assurance
  • 26 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Pension: 6% employer contribution / 3% employee contribution
  • Monday to Friday, core hours
  • Bedford-based workshop role with no constant travel or overnight stays
  • Full UK and international manufacturer training
  • Hands-on exposure to new products before launch
  • Opportunity to work with leading medical imaging technology
  • Proven progression route into Field Service Engineering
