The Opportunity
We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Site Construction Manager to join us for an 18‑month Fixed Term Contract. This role will have responsibility and accountability for the delivery of one of the most unique battery energy storage assets in the UK (>50 MW in size). Reporting to the Head of Construction your focus will be to ensure projects are designed, built and commissioned safely, in accordance with the contracted specifications and delivered on time, on budget and to a high quality. You should be comfortable dealing directly with DNOs and TOs, and collaborating with the wider team, working closely with the Project Manager and focusing on the management and delivery of all site works. This 18‑month Fixed Term Contract will be based on site, in the Lothian region of Scotland.
A Taste of the Day to Day
- Provide support and input to the project design stages, providing guidance on constructability and operability.
- Ensure competence of the workforce and ensure all activities are undertaken in a safe manner and in line with internal and regulatory HSE policies and standards including compliance with CDM.
- Support the development, implement and adhere to the requirements of the Project Quality Plan within the area of responsibility.
- Develop relationships with the contractors in an effort to promote a long‑term approach to safety and supplier performance at the construction site.
- Manage all on site interfaces including works related to grid connections both at distribution and transmission level.
- Bring technical queries/disputes regarding contractor supplied documentation to the attention of the Project Manager and assist thereafter with the resolution of such issues.
- Ensuring adequate design safety risk assessments in relation to Construction are undertaken, monitoring and ensuring close out of actions where appropriate.
- Supporting the Engineering Lead on construction related issues.
- Ensure that daily diaries and regular photographs of the works are kept acting as a record of the construction.
- Ensuring management of safety, quality, resource, schedule and cost objectives within the construction function to support the Project Manager.
- Providing client representation during construction and commissioning phases.
- Directly managing contractors on site to ensure the works are delivered in line with the contracted obligations and meet all quality, safety and programme requirements.
- Producing a weekly site progress report.
- Preparing a Construction report section to be included in the monthly project board report.
- Investigating / advising on HSE incidents and define an incident management process.
- Defining the HSE audit plan and reporting procedure and working alongside third party HSE consultants to deliver against the plan.
- Overseeing application of HSE policy and procedures (incl. HV safety rules).
- Co‑ordinating RAMS reviews.
- Providing challenge, where appropriate, to contractors to ensure that design, construction, HSE and project management standards are adhered to.
- Managing the day to day activities on site and ensuring the programme of works is defined between all contractors for upcoming activities.
- Managing the construction management team for the project including day to day activities.

What We're Looking For
- Experience in Electrical or Civil Engineering/ construction with relevant qualifications.
- Strong experience leading projects during the delivery phase.
- The preferred candidate will hold relevant experience in the construction of battery energy storage system assets and/or solar assets.
- Ideally you should be SMSTS Certified.
- APM, Prince2 or equivalent Project Management Qualification is desired.
- Familiar and up to date with design developments, statutory regulations, codes of practice and industry standards in relation to Construction.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Qualified.
- A genuine passion for renewable Energy.
- Grid connection experience – DNO and/or NG.
