THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics and Store Operative to join us for an 18 month period to cover maternity leave. This person will take responsibility for our logistics and warehouse function in our Portsmouth Test & Evaluation Centre. We are looking for someone who can work upon their own initiative alone, but who can also effectively integrate and work collaboratively as part of an agile team. It is essential that you are highly organised with a flexible attitude to a varied work pattern based on demand and thrive in a fast‑paced start‑up environment, often turning your hand to what is needed at the time.
The role will require you to assist in building components and support the technical team on‑site in their duties, with additional requirements to carry out testing and troubleshooting on sites around the UK which will require willingness to travel. You will be responsible for managing all inventory both at our central warehouse and at various locations around the world, taking ownership of the logistics for spare parts and defective parts in a timely manner. You will also liaise with manufacturers to arrange quotations for replacement parts when required and act as the focal point of contact for our logistics partners, preparing import and export documents accurately for shipping.
A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY
- Stock & Inventory Management
- Receiving and checking supplier deliveries, ensuring accuracy against orders
- Organising and storing stock so it is easy to locate, well‑labelled and safely managed
- Monitoring stock levels and keeping the inventory management system up to date
- Supporting returns and helping resolve discrepancies or damaged items
- Picking, Dispatch & Operational Support
- Picking and preparing parts and equipment for internal teams and project sites
- Supporting the ordering of parts for new sites and preparing them for dispatch
- Arranging deliveries of spare parts to sites, sometimes at short notice
- Carrying out occasional low‑level assembly tasks, such as preparing Zenobē site controllers
- Logistics & Shipping Coordination
- Supporting the coordination of domestic and international shipments
- Liaising with hauliers, freight forwarders, and suppliers to track and manage deliveries
- Assisting with obtaining shipping quotes and comparing options
- Flagging delays, issues, or risks and escalating where needed
- Supplier & Stakeholder Management
- Supporting communication with internal teams and responding to day‑to‑day requests
- Helping keep stakeholders informed of delivery timelines and changes
- Assisting with tracking supplier performance and highlighting concerns
- Continuous Improvement & Market Awareness
- Flagging opportunities to improve processes or reduce delays
- Supporting efforts to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Health, Safety & Ways of Working
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and well‑organised stores environment
- Following all handling and storage procedures to ensure compliance
- Prioritising tasks during busy periods to keep operations running smoothly
- Occasional travel to sites across the UK to support inventory‑related activities

Essential Competencies
- Some experience in a stores, warehouse, or logistics role, or a similar operational environment
- Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Excel or similar systems
- Clear and confident communication skills
- Reliable, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Ability to follow processes and work safely in a stores or warehouse environment
- Flexible approach and willingness to support a range of tasks
- Ability to travel occasionally when required
Desirable but non-essential skills
- Experience using inventory management or ERP systems
- Exposure to logistics or shipping coordination, including deliveries to multiple locations
- Basic understanding of domestic or international shipping processes
- Experience supporting reverse logistics or returns processes
- Forklift or warehouse equipment experience, or willingness to learn
- Experience working in a fast‑paced or growing business environment
- Interest in sustainability or green logistics practices
