THE OPPORTUNITY
The Operational Technology Network Engineer will play a key role in supporting Zenobē’s growing Battery Energy Storage portfolio, helping to ensure our OT networks are secure, resilient and able to meet increasing demands for scale, performance and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Head of Operational Technology, this role will act as the subject matter expert and design authority for OT networking. You will play a key role in the BESS project portfolio delivery and ongoing operational support for the assets. You will define design requirements, provide technical assurance, support key network engineering decisions and ensure solutions are secure by design and aligned to CNI requirements under NIS. The role will support the assessment and improvement of existing OT network environments, working with the current OT team, Engineering leadership, senior stakeholders and external MSPs. You will lead the transition from individual project‑based designs to a repeatable, scalable and globally aligned network model, including development of future strategy, target architecture, scope of works, partner selection and oversight of delivery. The role is flexible in location and will require occasional travel to and from the project sites and the London Head Office.
A TASTE OF THE DAY TO DAY
- Act as the design authority and subject matter expert for the OT network.
- Prepare design specifications for large‑scale BESS projects and develop a clear and well‑defined scope of work for the procurement, installation/build, configuration and commissioning of the network solutions for suitable third‑party tendering.
- Support BESS project delivery by ensuring OT network solutions meet Zenobē’s technical, security and operational requirements throughout design, procurement, build, commissioning and handover.
- Undertake occasional site visits to support project delivery, commissioning, operational troubleshooting and technical assurance activities, working closely with site teams, contractors, MSPs and internal stakeholders to ensure OT network solutions are implemented and maintained effectively.
- Lead the “as‑is” review of the current estate and design the new “to‑be” global network architecture (WAN, LAN, Security).
- Develop the end‑to‑end technical transformation roadmap, from initial design to implementation.
- Define, implement, and continuously improve a proportionate governance and assurance framework for all network designs and changes.
- Direct and govern the technical performance of all external MSPs, ensuring they adhere to architectural and engineering standards.
- Architect and enforce strict IT/OT segmentation and security controls to meet our CNI compliance mandates.
- Act as the final technical escalation point for complex, systemic network issues that other teams cannot resolve.
- Be a strategic thinker, translating complex network concepts, risks and strategies for non‑technical stakeholders.
