About Zenobē

Our mission is to make clean power accessible. We are passionate about making a positive impact on communities and the environment where we work. We’re designing, financing, building and operating the world’s most sophisticated battery systems to enable the take up of more renewable power, electrifying fleets for cleaner air, and providing clean, portable power including repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Our proprietary software and data analysis optimises operational performance for our customers to reduce emissions and costs.

Since we began in 2017, we’ve raised over £2.7 billion in debt and equity funding and transformed it into >1.2GW of grid-connected batteries live or under contract and c.3,400 electric vehicles supported. We have operations in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the US and Canada, with a global headquarters in London. We’re the leading owner and operator of battery storage in the UK, supporting the National Grid with the uptake of renewable power. We also work with c.90% of the UK’s major bus companies, powering 25% of the UK e‑bus market. We’re also the number one owner and operator of e‑buses in Australia and New Zealand, and are quickly expanding into light commercial vehicles and trucks. Our rapidly growing company is looking for highly talented and motivated people to join us.

The Opportunity

As an Asset Performance Engineer, you will lead the technical analysis and execution related to revenue protection, market parameter optimisation, and value tracking across our utility‑scale BESS portfolio. Operating «from the grid down,» this position bridges technical asset capabilities with commercial market outcomes. You will be responsible for quantifying underperformance, mitigating financial claw‑back exposures, and managing the technical readiness of critical revenue‑generating contracts. Reporting to the Asset Performance Manager, you will work with our Asset Performance Engineers who focus on core battery health and degradation physics to translate asset data into maximised market returns and robust risk mitigation.

A Taste of the Day to Day

  • Revenue Protection & Financial Exposure Analytics
  • Quantify and trend financial exposures: Track, model, and analyse delivery performance risks, explicitly identifying drivers and trending exposures related to D* and QR/BR clawback mechanisms.
  • Lead technical forensics for revenue risk: Investigate the precise grid and dispatch drivers behind financial clawbacks. Compile comprehensive technical evidence packs to support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) workflows without owning day‑to‑day O&M site delivery.
  • Build a forward‑looking risk view: Provide continuous performance and downside‑risk inputs to support broader commercial delivery, portfolio trading decisions, and Capacity Market secondary trading strategies.
  • Portfolio Optimisation & Parameter Tuning
  • Identify value‑creation opportunities: Scout for technical asset optimisation opportunities and construct clear, data‑driven change options. Quantify the precise upside and downside impacts on market value, risk exposure, and battery lifecycle.
  • Execute live parameter tuning: Implement tactical optimisation changes and adjust operational asset parameters (including system imbalances, auxiliary load vs. temperature optimisation, and system operating limits) safely within the technical asset boundaries established by the wider performance team.
  • Govern change control: Own the end‑to‑end change control and benefits tracking process—moving from initial technical proposal through implementation to performance verification and realised market‑value reporting.
  • Drive system improvements: Raise and prioritise operational technology (OT) and software change requests where performance or commercial value impacts are backed by data.
  • Contractual Testing & Market Compliance
  • Manage performance testing readiness: Plan, coordinate, and execute key industry verification tests (such as EPTs). Evaluate testing from a commercial delivery‑readiness and downside‑risk perspective to safeguard revenue streams.
  • Govern Capacity Market performance: Act as the technical performance anchor for Capacity Market contract obligations, ensuring asset behaviours completely align with testing parameters and regulatory compliance frameworks.

  • Desirable:
  • Experience operating at the interface between technical asset management and commercial power trading teams.
