Reports to: Partner - Line Manager

Contact type: Contract type Permanent – full time with study leave entitlement

Working Week: Monday – Friday, 9:30am – 5.30pm

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Job Purpose

To provide support to internal staff and external clients. To assist with the day-to-day financial activities, these will include but are not limited to data entry, month end VAT returns, management accounts, year-end financial accounts and corporate tax returns.

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting with financial and management accounts preparation for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies.
  • Assisting with managing client expectations and deadlines.
  • Assisting with the preparation of business tax returns.
  • Carrying out bookkeeping activities including journal postings and ledger reconciliations.
  • Processing client records accurately using Xero, Iris, Microsoft Excel and other accountancy software.
  • Preparation of VAT returns.
  • Attending courses when required to develop accountancy skills.
  • Maintaining learning records and aiming to pass exams first time to enable progression to qualification within the period of the training contract.

All criteria are essential unless otherwise stated.

Skills and qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English – 9-4 (A-C).
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Clear and logical thinking.
  • Good IT skills including experience of using Excel to a high level.
  • Good organisational skills and an ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with all team members.
  • A respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with clients.
  • Practical application of learning and development opportunities.

Trainee Accountants will be supported by Zenith Advisory through the ACA training package.
