We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Management Accountant to join our client's finance team and take responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records while supporting the smooth operation of the wider finance function. The successful candidate will manage a broad range of bookkeeping and accounting activities, including the preparation of management accounts, cashflow reporting, accounts payable, reconciliations, CIS reporting, and support with year-end financial processes.
In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will contribute to improving finance processes, developing procedures, analysing business performance, and supporting operational improvements. The ideal candidate will be organised, commercially aware, and confident using accounting systems such as Xero, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, ensuring timely reporting of financial performance and key business information.
- Support the preparation of annual management accounts and year-end financial reporting requirements.
- Monitor and manage cashflow activities, producing regular reports to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Manage CIS calculations, deductions, and submission of monthly returns in line with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and banking information.
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and payments are made within agreed timescales.
- Complete regular bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies promptly.
- Produce financial reports and analysis to provide management with clear visibility of business performance.
- Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts, tax submissions, and year-end audit requirements.
- Liaise with external auditors by providing supporting documentation and financial information as required.
- Ensure all accounting activities comply with relevant legislation, company procedures, and financial regulations.
- Maintain accurate financial data using accounting systems, including platforms such as Xero.
- Support the development, review, and implementation of finance policies, procedures, and controls to improve operational effectiveness.
- Analyse financial and business performance information, identifying trends and recommending opportunities for improvement.
- Build effective working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and wider finance-related projects as required.
- Provide flexible support across the finance function to meet changing business priorities and operational needs.
- Previous experience working within a management accounting, bookkeeping, or wider finance role, with a strong understanding of core accounting practices.
- A working knowledge of CIS.
- Good working knowledge of purchase ledger processes, accounts payable procedures, and general bookkeeping principles.
- Confident user of accounting software, with experience using Xero or similar finance systems highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate financial records and produce reliable financial information.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage deadlines, and handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- A finance or accounting qualification (or relevant professional training) would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Experience managing intercompany transactions or charges would be advantageous.
