Description: In this role the successful candidate will be working as part of the mechanical design team to deliver projects from feasibility through to construction (RIBA Stages 1‑6).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, specification and construction‑stage delivery of building‑specific mechanical services projects, covering all elements of Mechanical Services across all relevant RIBA Plan of Work stages.
- Act as Project Lead on allocated commissions, managing multiple projects concurrently and taking responsibility for technical delivery, programme, and quality.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with current British Standards, CIBSE Guides and Codes of Practice, statutory requirements, and other relevant legislation.
- Prepare building services feasibility studies, technical option appraisals, and energy and sustainability assessments to support client decision‑making.
- Prepare project cost estimates, assess resource requirements, and develop fee proposals for prospective commissions.
- Represent the practice at internal and external design team meetings, client meetings, and site meetings as required.
- Mentor and support the professional development of intermediate engineers and graduate engineers within the team.
- Support the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Director with portfolio‑level reporting, including monthly progress updates, invoicing, and milestone tracking.
- Foster effective, collaborative working relationships within the project team and across the wider multidisciplinary consultancy.

Essential Skills:
- Ability to manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines while maintaining good communication with clients and design teams.
- Project leading / client facing experience.
- Strong organisational skills, with attention to programme, quality, and commercial awareness.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workload effectively across multiple live projects and deadlines.
Knowledge & Qualifications:
Essential:
- Good working knowledge of industry regulations, building services mechanical design, and installations.
- Good working knowledge of utility services, both new connections and disconnections.
- Experience in project management/leading building service projects.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent professional qualifications.
- Understanding of electrical services.
- Professional registration with an Engineering Institution (IMECHE, IET, CIBSE etc.).
Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in building services mechanical engineering, engineering consultancy and/or mechanical installations.
- Experience with design calculation software packages: AutoCAD and IES.
- Experience with renewable technology and renewable systems.
- Experience with design calculation software packages: Design Builder, Cymap, BIM projects and Revit.
