The Role
At Zempler Bank, we’re building technology that genuinely helps people and small businesses succeed. We’re now looking for a Senior Developer to join our growing engineering team someone who enjoys writing quality code, solving real problems, and supporting others around them to do their best work. This is a hands‑on role where your voice will matter. You’ll help shape technical decisions, mentor others, and build resilient, secure systems that stand up in a regulated, real‑world environment.
Hybrid Working
We are very proud to offer one of the most flexible hybrid working arrangements in the industry! The expectation for this role will involve a minimum of one day each month - working out of our London Bridge office.
A supportive, collaborative engineering culture:
- Space to influence how things are built not just implement tickets
- A team that values quality, pragmatism and continuous improvement
- Flexibility, trust, and a genuinely human approach to work
- We care about inclusion and welcome applications from everyone, whatever your background
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting the Development Lead to deliver high‑quality software aligned to sprint goals and timelines
- Designing and building resilient, scalable applications using C# across .NET and .NET Framework
- Translating business requirements into well‑shaped, technically sound solutions
- Contributing to architectural and technical decisions with both the short and long term in mind
- Writing clean, maintainable code that meets the Definition of Done
- Carrying out code reviews and promoting good engineering standards
- Troubleshooting production issues, supporting incidents when needed, and preventing recurrence
- Taking part in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and three‑amigos sessions
- Documenting applications clearly and writing concise change controls for deployments
- Supporting secure development aligned to OWASP Top 10
- Proactively suggesting better ways of working, tools, or technologies
What we’re looking for:
- Strong commercial experience developing on the Microsoft stack using C#, .NET and .NET Framework
- Experience building Web APIs and modern web applications
- Proven use of TDD (NUnit, xUnit or MSTest)
- Solid knowledge of SQL Server and relational database design
- Confidence writing SQL queries and stored procedures (not solely ORM‑driven)
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy)
- Experience using Git (preferably GitHub)
- A calm, pragmatic approach to problem solving, including working on incidents
- Strong communication skills able to explain technical ideas with empathy and business context
Desirable (nice to have, not must‑have):
- Experience working in Scrum / Agile environments
- Knowledge of secure development practices
- Experience with service‑orientated architectures
- Application monitoring tools such as Elastic, APM, or similar
Risk & control matters here
As a regulated organisation, we take this seriously. You’ll help ensure applications and processes operate safely within risk appetite, identifying and managing risks thoughtfully and responsibly.
Benefits:
- Competitive basic salary
- Additional benefit allowance representing 7.5% of your annual salary allowing you the flexibility to decide your own benefits (or simply absorb this into your monthly income).
- 26 days’ holiday increasing each year of service to 33 days
- Ability to buy and sell a further 5 days holiday each year
- 4 x Life Assurance
- Pension salary sacrifice
- Option for LinkedIn Learning license
- Family friendly policies
- Regular social activities and team events
- Charity Volunteering Day
