Make a real difference to payroll delivery. We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Practitioner to join our Managed Services team in Birmingham. This is a hands-on, senior role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, supporting others and raising the standard of payroll delivery. You will be a go-to expert for complex payroll queries and escalations, while also playing a key role in developing colleagues, improving processes and shaping how payroll services are delivered across the business. This role works closely with teams in the UK, ROI & India, so collaboration, knowledge sharing and consistency are central to what you will do.

Working Pattern

This is a full time, permanent role operating in a hybrid working pattern. You will be required to attend the Birmingham, Rubery office two days a week.

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership of complex and urgent payroll queries and escalations, providing expert guidance and resolution.
  • Support and mentor colleagues at all levels through floor walking, side-by-side coaching and targeted training.
  • Keep up to date with changes in payroll and HR legislation, tooling and customer expectations, sharing insight with the wider team and management.
  • Embed new legislation, processes and ways of working into operational teams.
  • Review payroll processes and identify opportunities to streamline and improve them through automation and transformation activity.
  • Maintain training and skills matrices to highlight knowledge gaps and development needs.
  • Use data and analytics to support service delivery, trend analysis and deeper investigations into issues.
  • Carry out incident reviews and recommend solutions to prevent repeat issues.
  • Support quality assurance activity across case management and telephony.
  • Play an active role in year-end payroll activity.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with strong payroll expertise who enjoys sharing knowledge and improving how things are done. You will ideally bring:

  • Significant experience working in payroll services.
  • CIPP qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, including sector-specific insight.
  • Experience coaching, training or supporting others in a payroll environment.
  • Good understanding of HCM systems, including configuration and optimisation.
  • Experience working with IT-related incidents, requirements or change activity.
