General Overview
Location: 22 Gas Street, Birmingham, B1 2JT
Department: Operations
Contract: 6-month Fixed Term, Full-Time (37.5hrs per week), 8 hour shift pattern.
Purpose of the Role
The Carl Zeiss Vision UK Operations Team are responsible for delivering the highest quality products to our customers as efficiently as possible, so that we ensure the highest customer satisfaction whilst being recognised as best in industry by our customers for optical lenses. As an Operations Support Technician you will unpack, scan, inspect, trace and dispatch orders efficiently and accurately, maximising the number of orders we are able to fulfill every day which are right first time. You will support the wider Operations team to achieve or exceed the department’s KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to ensure our customers receive the highest quality product quickly.
Key objective of the role:
- Perform routine pre-production duties and ensure all orders are processed efficiently and accurately to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Use basic glazing skills (tracing) accurately to ensure the Operations Technicians can produce high-quality products, right first time.
Key Requirements of the role include:
- Follow defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various processes (unpack, scan, inspect, trace and tray up) to ensure jobs are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Use various digital platforms accurately to track jobs throughout their production journey.
- Investigate or flag instances where the process hasn’t gone quite right so that we can ensure the customer is still delighted with the service and product.
- Keep the pre-production area and Technical Centre clean and tidy to support a 5S environment.
- Comply with and maintain good standards of health and safety for self and others.
- Work with your peers and Team Leaders to flag any possible process improvements which could be implemented, applying a continuous improvement mindset.
- Participate in training exercises to continuously improve and develop your skills in line with Skills Matrix requirements.
- Support the delivery of the wider Operations Team KPIs even if this is outside of normal day to day activities.
- Contribute to the Operations Team and the wider ZEISS business being a Great Place to Work by always displaying our core competencies and behaviours.
Required Knowledge & Experience
- Must have: Ability to work on either the 8 or 12-hour shift pattern.
- Able to commute to Birmingham facility for all shifts.
- Desirable: Previously worked in a process driven and fast paced environment (e.g. warehouse / production line / retail).
