The way we live, work and travel has changed. At Zego, we're leading the AI evolution in insurance. AI takes the routine work off every team, from Finance to Product to Marketing, so people ship real code and launch custom dashboards in minutes. Engineering commits are entirely AI-assisted, which shifts the focus from team size to the quality of your thinking and our data warehouse connects directly to an AI assistant for instant answers. Backed by a modern tech stack (Claude Code, Snowflake, Figma and Zapier) and a commitment to adopting new tools in days rather than quarters, you get complete ownership to do the most impactful work of your career.
What you will be doing:
- Solve complex problems with software that is reliable, well tested, resilient and observable.
- Develop, test, deploy and own Python microservices that deliver real business and user value.
- Shape architectural decisions so systems scale without becoming harder to change.
- Lift code quality across the team through reviews and clear, well-documented code.
- Ship outcomes as part of a product team, working closely with engineers and Product Managers.
- Improve how the team works and influence the direction of its strategy.
What you will need to be successful:
- Backend and cloud microservices - A proven track record building and maintaining backend systems and cloud microservices. Our stack is Python, but strong experience in another language works too!
- Strong fundamentals - Data structures, algorithms and object-oriented programming, applied rather than recited.
- Delivery discipline - Comfortable with testing frameworks, debugging, refactoring, version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Data fluency - A working understanding of SQL and document databases.
- Ownership at pace - You work independently, take business and product ownership and keep moving when requirements evolve.
- You work AI-first - You will use AI daily here, and we mean daily.
Working here means having the backing, the coaching and an inclusive community of Zegons across the UK and Europe, who celebrate your wins and raise your game. It also means holding ourselves to high standards: moving with urgency, taking complete ownership and embracing honest feedback that helps us continuously learn and evolve! This is your opportunity for a career-defining experience and one you will own.

How to prepare for a job interview at Zego
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Zego uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
