About Zego
At Zego, we understand that traditional motor insurance holds good drivers back. It's too complicated, too expensive, and it doesn't reflect how well you actually drive. Since 2016, we have been on a mission to change that by offering the lowest priced insurance for good drivers. From van drivers and gig workers to everyday car drivers, our customers are the driving force behind everything we do. We've sold tens of millions of policies and raised over $200 million in funding and picked up numerous awards, including the Insurance Claims Team Of The Year 2024 as awarded at The Insurance Post's Claims & Fraud Awards. And we’re only just getting started.
Purpose of Desktop Motor Engineer role
Zego’s Claims department is expanding, and we’re on the hunt for a highly skilled Desktop Motor Engineer to elevate our standards in vehicle assessments and repairs. In this pivotal role, as a Desktop Motor Engineer, you’ll drive excellence, quality, and innovation. You will work closely with our claims teams to ensure that all repair costs and procedures meet industry and manufacturer standards and our processes are continuously elevated. This role is all about ensuring fair, efficient, and accurate claims handling while keeping customer experience at the heart of the process!
If you’re ready to make an impact, drive innovation, and set new standards in vehicle assessments and claims excellence, we’d love to hear from you!
What you’ll be doing
- Invoice & Report Review – Carefully check invoices, repair estimates, and third‑party reports to make sure costs are fair and repairs follow Thatcham guidelines or manufacturer standards.
- Cost Assessment – Review repair estimates from both network and non‑network garages, challenging any unnecessary costs and ensuring they reflect the actual damage. Approve repairs quickly while keeping within our Service Level Agreements.
- Valuation & Market Analysis – Use industry tools like Glass’s MVA and Percayso, along with vehicle history checks (HPI, MIAFTR), to accurately assess total loss claims. Research the market, factoring in mileage, vehicle condition, and any pre‑existing damage.
- Negotiation & Settlement – Work closely with repair networks, suppliers, and salvage agents to negotiate fair repair costs and total loss settlements. Ensure the right salvage category is assigned in line with the ABI Code of Conduct.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Proven hands‑on experience with vehicle repairs and body damage assessment, ideally within insurance or accident management.
- You’re able to confidently review engineering reports, assess repair methods, and evaluate costs.
- You’re comfortable using tools like Glass’s Guide, Audatex, GT Motive, and E Scribe.
- You’ve a strong understanding of roadworthy vehicle requirements under the Road Traffic Act.
- You can work independently in a fast‑paced environment and have strong verbal and written skills to work effectively with salvage agents, repair networks, and internal teams.
- ATA VDA certification is a plus, and a current AQP qualification ID number is required.
