Are you ready to be part of a groundbreaking initiative transforming Scotland’s £2.4bn food and drink sector? The new £27 million innovation hub opening is set to open in 2025 at SRUC’s Craibstone campus near Aberdeen with the aim of driving growth, sustainability, and cutting-edge advancements in manufacturing and production.

This pioneering facility will support start-ups and established businesses, providing access to world-class resources, including food-safe manufacturing spaces, pilot plants, commercial demonstration kitchens, and collaboration areas. It will foster new product development, scale-up production, and connect businesses to global market insights.

To support the sites growth, we are looking for a Technical Manager to oversee the technical and day-to-day running of our facility, ensuring compliance with all statutory food safety requirements while delivering outstanding customer service to tenants and visitors.

The Role

As the Technical Manager, you will take the lead in managing the operational and technical aspects of the site, ensuring a high standard of food safety, hygiene, and compliance. You will lead a dedicated team, maintain strong relationships with tenants and stakeholders, and work closely with the facilities management team to ensure the seamless operation of the site.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Technical Management

  • Lead and develop the site operations team.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the facility.
  • Manage site quality assurance standards and ensure compliance with:
  • Health, safety, and fire regulations
  • Risk assessments & management
  • Hygiene and cleaning standards
  • Food safety regulations and processes
  • Maintain all accreditations required for a food-safe environment.
  • Ensure adherence to allergen control procedures.
  • Oversee the onboarding of tenants to the building and their workspaces.
  • Manage the internal audit schedule, ensuring timely audits and addressing non-conformances.
  • Provide technical and commercial guidance to tenants on product development and compliance.

Stakeholder & Facilities Management

  • Work closely with the facilities management contract manager to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  • Maintain strong relationships with tenants, stakeholders, and external suppliers.
  • Support and advise tenants on product development and food industry technical matters.

Essential Skills & Experience

Ideally you will be educated to Degree level or possess relevant equivalent experience in a food-related discipline. You should also hold Advanced HACCP and Food Hygiene certifications.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Previous experience as a Technical Manager in the food industry.
  • Strong commercial acumen with budget management experience.
  • Proven track record in food safety culture, hygiene, and compliance.
  • Practical knowledge of allergen management and food legislation.
  • Experience in maintaining an internal audit program and a Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Skilled in Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving.
