As Assistant Probate Manager, you will take full responsibility for the end to end administration of a book of probate cases, providing a first-class service to beneficiaries and Legal Personal Representatives (‘LPRs’). Support with some administration tasks is provided by a dedicated support team. You may also be required, on occasion, to attend face to face meetings with beneficiaries/LPRs. This will involve explaining our service including fees and collecting and collating the financial paperwork of the deceased.

Key Accountabilities

  • Full responsibility for the end to end administration of a book of probate cases varying in complexity, including complex cases e.g. taxable estates, estates including agricultural, business and overseas assets, and estates where we are on notice of a claim.
  • Act largely independently and be proactive in driving matters forward, through effective prioritisation of workload, to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of quality service.
  • Strong client relationship/communication skills as regular, quality communications with vulnerable beneficiaries/clients is a key part of the role.
  • Some supervision of less experienced team members.
  • Be a team player with the ability to actively identify and implement business initiatives for process improvement.
  • Accurate record keeping (including time recording) and preparation of estate accounts using the preferred estate administration package.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Over 6 years estate administration experience.
  • Some will writing experience is desirable.
  • A solid understanding of inheritance tax including the availability of all reliefs and exemptions and experience with grossing up.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work largely independently but with supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Planning and organisational skills are key to this role together with effective time management skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Ideally, STEP qualified or working towards the qualification.
