On a mission to transform one of the world’s most pollutive industries in Construction, this company is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join them, with occasional visits to their London office. Their product allows you to make an informed decision on cost, carbon and quality when constructing any building. After oversubscribing their Series A investment round, they need someone to help build a sustainable future.

What will you be doing?

  • Initially managing three engineering teams (AI, Data & Platform/Web), currently consisting of 7 people plus a QA, with plans to more than double the business in size over the next 18 months.
  • Focussing on the people side; helping to unlock the team’s potential.
  • Shaping and implementing best engineering working practices, creating progression plans and frameworks for the team, and overseeing efforts to address technical debt and enhance code quality.
  • Providing leadership and fostering an engineering culture; celebrating achievements, recognising efforts and helping to upskill team members.
  • Managing resource at the head-count level.
  • Planning team structure, capacity and workloads according to key objectives.
  • Setting clear personal objectives, providing guidance, mentoring and coaching.
  • Performing administrative tasks in support of the team, including renewal of security certificates and overseeing cloud expenditure.
  • Ensuring voices are amplified upwards and team members are fully utilised.
  • Implementing a culture that encourages curiosity, continuous improvement and honesty.

What background do you need?

  • Experience in a start-up environment looking to scale rapidly.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with previous experience in heading up a team, hiring, coaching and mentoring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict and build a strong engineering culture across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with SaaS platforms is beneficial.
  • Sound technical knowledge to inspire the team.
