This role is for a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of technical delivery, provide leadership across multiple data initiatives, and play a key role in shaping modern data platforms within a large, enterprise environment. This is an opportunity for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and mentoring skills, and who thrives in a fast-moving, multi-project setting.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you’ll:

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across multiple data engineering projects
  • Translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable, robust solutions
  • Act as a subject matter expert in modern data engineering practices
  • Support delivery governance, ensuring projects are completed on time and to a high standard
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and graduates, helping them grow and succeed
  • Work across a mix of initiatives, from hands-on technical leadership to broader architectural input

You’ll typically balance 1–2 projects as a technical lead, while contributing to wider programme-level delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines and data platforms
  • Migrations from Informatica to Glue/Snowflake
  • Contribute to data architecture and solution design
  • Drive best practices in data quality, performance, and reliability
  • Lead and support teams in a distributed (onshore/offshore) model
  • Engage confidently with stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams
  • Challenge and improve existing solutions where needed
Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience in data engineering leadership roles (e.g. Tech Lead, Application Lead)
  • Proven background in ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and big data solutions
  • Experience working across multiple concurrent projects (consulting-style environments beneficial)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Familiarity with tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Informatica (or similar)
  • Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, Redshift, Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server
  • Strong SQL skills and working knowledge of Python/PySpark
  • Understanding of CI/CD in data environments
  • Has strong mentoring experience and enjoys developing others
  • Can demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
