Zazu Digital Talent is running this search on behalf of a long-standing client: a VC backed, founder-led B2B technology scale-up with a fully distributed team spanning dozens of countries. The culture holds up at distance because it is engineered to: values that are built into how people are reviewed, paid and promoted, and regular in-person offsites that the whole company attends.
The role involves owning the People function end to end and acting as the strategic partner to the executive team on everything people, including org design as the company scales. The unusual part: the function is already built and respected. Structured salary bands with a transparent compensation philosophy, career frameworks, manager enablement, and a modern HR stack with a heavy degree of automation. You inherit momentum, not a turnaround. Your job is to run it brilliantly, scale it, and make it better. You will lead one direct report who runs day-to-day people operations.
What you'll own:
- People strategy and executive partnership, including org design
- Performance: review cycles, calibration, and a no-surprises performance culture
- Compensation: band architecture, transparency, and comp cycles
- Global employment and compliance: direct entities plus EOR and contractor models across many countries, GDPR, and country-specific employment matters
- People budget and vendors: payroll oversight, benefits renewals and negotiations, cost discipline in partnership with Finance
- Manager enablement and leadership development across a distributed team
- Culture and engagement: surveys, internal comms, recognition, and company offsites
What you'll need:
- Two halves, and we mean both. The culture carrier: you can hold a room at an All Hands, host a company offsite, and make people feel connected to a company they mostly see through a screen.
- The governance operator: you have owned multi-country employment (ideally EOR models), GDPR, pay transparency regulation, payroll oversight and benefits budgets, and Finance and Legal treat you as a peer.
- Plus: 8+ years in People roles with at least 3 leading a function, ideally in a distributed or global scale-up; hands-on fluency with a modern HR stack and a genuine appetite for AI and automation; a builder's bias for improving systems rather than admiring them.
What's on offer:
A global, remote company that flies everyone together multiple times a year. Transparent, structured compensation you will be running yourself. A People function you inherit with momentum, not a rescue job. Real executive access and the mandate to shape how the company scales.
