Who we’re looking for

We are looking for experienced managers to join Zara at Deputy Manager level. We welcome applications from two types of candidate:

  • 360° all-round managers with a proven track record leading a large retail operation end-to-end - people leadership, commercial performance and product management - at Deputy Manager level.
  • Senior specialists with significant, senior-level expertise concentrated in one area: retail operations, product, or people.

You will be passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable shopping experiences.

As a visible leader on the shop floor, you will confidently engage with customers, lead by example and coach your team to deliver outstanding service standards.

You understand that commercial success comes from putting the customer first and continuously developing your team to exceed expectations.

Who we are

Zara is one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, known for its speed-to-market model, design-led collections and global reach.

Fashion is what we sell. How we work is what sets us apart: teamwork, respect, curiosity and sustainability, with people at the centre of every success.

The role

As a manager at Zara, you are a commercial and people leader.

You balance results with relationships, using insight, empathy and organisation to create strong performance, exceptional customer experiences and a positive store culture.

You lead from the shop floor, inspiring your team through coaching, feedback and example.

You create an environment where customers feel welcomed, valued and supported, while ensuring your team has the confidence, knowledge and skills to deliver service that exceeds expectations.

You work in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to change while staying focused, proactive and customer-led.

This role is for you if you...

  • Have proven experience leading a large retail operation - either across all areas (people, product and commercial performance) or with deep, senior-level specialism in one of these areas.
  • Lead with emotional intelligence, integrity and a positive mindset.
  • Are passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable experiences for every customer.
  • Enjoy working directly with the public and confidently build relationships with a diverse range of customers.
  • Are committed to developing, coaching and upskilling your team to achieve their full potential.
  • Are reliable, well organised and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Are confident analysing sales performance and turning insight into action.
  • Use store tools and technology to drive operational excellence.
  • Understand that motivating teams and delivering outstanding customer experiences go hand in hand.
  • Align naturally with Zara’s values and ethical standards.

What you'll do

  • Lead the daily operation of the store, ensuring excellence across people, product and commercial performance - or bring specialist depth to your focus area.
  • Analyse commercial and product data to improve sales, productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Respond proactively to trading performance, making timely commercial decisions.
  • Translate KPIs into clear priorities and motivating actions for your team.
  • Lead, coach and develop your team, creating a culture of continuous learning and high performance.
  • Inspire and upskill colleagues to consistently deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Lead by example on the shop floor, engaging with customers and supporting your team during peak trading periods.
  • Ensure every customer touchpoint is welcoming, engaging and delivers an outstanding shopping experience.
  • Oversee daily store operations with consistency, pace and attention to detail.
  • Act as an ambassador for Zara’s sustainability initiatives and company values.

What we offer

Competitive salary, 25% staff discount, 28 days holiday allowance, company pension scheme and our "More for Less" benefits platform with a wide range of discounts.

At Zara, internal talent is our greatest asset.

We offer clear progression opportunities, continuous learning through training and e-learning, and the chance to contribute to social and sustainability projects that make a real difference.

We are committed to creating a recruitment process that is inclusive and accessible to everyone. Adjustments are available for candidates with disabilities or long-term conditions.

How to prepare for a job interview at Zara

Show Off Your Customer Service Skills

Retail is all about providing an exceptional customer experience, so be ready to discuss your past customer service stories. We should have examples on hand of how we've handled difficult situations or gone above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. These anecdotes will bring your application to life!

Familiarity with Point of Sale Systems

Many retail roles require us to work with Point of Sale (POS) systems, so it's a good idea to brush up on any relevant software you’ve used before. If you’re familiar with systems like Shopify or Square, don’t forget to mention this during the interview. Highlighting technical proficiency can set us apart from other candidates!

Understand Product Knowledge

Be prepared to discuss the products that the store sells and how we can contribute to their sales. Showing enthusiasm for the products and a willingness to learn can impress interviewers. We should research popular items or trends in the industry before the interview, so we can speak confidently about them.

Be Ready for Role-Playing Scenarios

Many retail interviews include role-playing scenarios where we might have to deal with a difficult customer or upsell a product. Practising these scenarios with a friend or family member can help us feel more comfortable. The key here is to showcase our problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure!
