About Zapp
Zapp is London's leading premium convenience retail platform. Founded in 2020, our vision is to disrupt the multi‑trillion dollar convenience retail market, currently dominated by major players, by developing best‑in‑class customer‑centric technology and fulfilment solutions. Zapp partners with some of the world's leading brands to deliver an exclusive range of hand‑picked products 24/7, delivered in minutes.
About the Role
Pricing is one of the highest‑leverage functions in Zapp's business. Done well, it protects margin, sharpens our competitive position and builds long‑term customer trust. Done poorly, it costs us all three. As Director, Founder's Office (Pricing), you will own this function in its entirety: the strategy, the infrastructure and the day‑to‑day decisions. You will work directly with the Founder to define how Zapp prices across a catalogue of thousands of SKUs, build the systems to monitor competitors in real‑time and develop the models that tell us where to move and when. This is a critical role with a direct input into the P&L. The right person combines serious analytical capability with the commercial judgement to act on it fast, the conviction to define the agenda and drive pricing decisions independently, and a genuine interest in using AI and automation to build smarter, faster pricing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Pricing Strategy
- Design and own Zapp's pricing strategy across all categories: setting the framework, the guardrails and the commercial logic that drives every pricing decision
- Lead weekly pricing reviews, analysing margin performance against targets and competitor benchmarks, and driving improvement opportunities through to execution
- Build long‑term pricing roadmaps that are aligned to Zapp's growth objectives and that evolve as the business scales and the market moves
- Create clear pricing guidelines and playbooks that the Category Management team can apply consistently across the range
- Partner with Finance to model the revenue and margin impact of pricing changes and feed pricing insight into category investment decisions
- Competitive Intelligence
- Build and maintain automated competitor price tracking that covers thousands of SKUs daily across Zapp's key London competitors
- Develop alerting systems that surface significant price movements or promotional activity in real‑time, enabling the team to respond before the market moves against us
- Build competitive pricing dashboards using Zapp's internal data infrastructure that give the team instant visibility on price positioning by category
- Translate competitor pricing patterns and promotional strategies into clear, grounded recommendations that the business can act on
- Pricing Science and Automation
- Conduct rigorous analysis of price elasticity and sensitivity across customer segments, categories and purchase occasions
- Build and iterate elasticity models that inform promotion design, markdown logic and base price decisions across the range
- Leverage AI and automation tools to continuously improve the depth, accuracy and coverage of Zapp's pricing systems, reducing manual processes and improving response times
- Identify margin improvement opportunities across the catalogue and work with Category Management to prioritise and execute them
- Commercial Partnership
- Work closely with Category Management to ensure pricing decisions are aligned with ranging strategy, promotional calendars and supplier trading terms
- Partner with Product and Technology to embed pricing logic into Zapp's internal commerce platform and make the right data visible at the right time
- Support the Retail Media team in building supplier‑funded promotion structures that are margin‑accretive and commercially credible
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years in pricing, revenue management or commercial analytics, with a track record of delivering measurable P&L impact through pricing strategy
- Strong technical skills in SQL and data analysis; experience with Python or R for modelling is a clear advantage
- Experience building or managing automated competitor monitoring systems or price scraping infrastructure
- Sharp commercial judgement: you understand the difference between a pricing decision that improves margin and one that merely looks defensible in a spreadsheet
- A self‑directed executor who sets their own agenda, builds the solution and drives it to completion without needing oversight
- A confident communicator who can present a pricing rationale to the Founder, a commercial director and a brand partner with equal clarity
- A genuine interest in applying AI tools to pricing, automation and competitive intelligence workflows
- Familiarity with Looker or other BI tools is a strong advantage
- Background in retail, grocery or e‑commerce is strongly preferred
Benefits
This is a genuinely differentiated opportunity: direct access to the Founder and Senior Leadership Team of one of London's most ambitious retail platforms, with real ownership of a function that sits at the core of the business. Your work will be visible, consequential and fast‑moving. We also offer:
- Competitive salary & equity package
- 25 days holiday per year (plus all bank holidays)
- Private Health Insurance
- Extended sick pay and maternity/paternity leave pay
- Cycle to work scheme
