Overview
Responsible for overseeing day-to-day transport operations, ensuring efficient planning, high service standards, and effective team performance across a busy logistics desk. Acts as the key escalation point for operational issues and drives continuous improvement across processes and people.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily desk operations, ensuring adequate staffing and smooth workflow
- Lead, train, and develop planners and coordinators, including performance reviews and onboarding
- Act as first point of escalation for driver and customer issues, resolving promptly or escalating where required
- Monitor service delivery, ensuring all contracts meet performance and quality standards
- Oversee compliance with transport procedures, documentation, and legal requirements
- Coordinate with fleet teams to ensure timely servicing, maintenance, and vehicle availability
- Track driver performance, attendance, and holidays
- Produce operational reports and highlight risks or improvement opportunities
- Drive a 'fix it now' approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
- Support wider operations and contribute to business improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Experience in a transport planning or traffic management role within logistics
- Strong knowledge of UK & Ireland geography and transport regulations
- Confident communicator across all levels
- High level of IT literacy (digital-first operation)
- Organised, detail-oriented, and able to work to tight deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset
- Flexible approach to working hours and operational demands
- CPC is desirable
