What makes them unique compared to competitors is that they have designed a bionic hand that is entirely powered and controlled through body motion. This means no electronics. This point of difference is a strong asset, as they can offer greater functionality, reliability and robustness at a lower cost and weight.

Prior to launching their product into production last year, they tested their prototypes with potential customers internationally and received glowing feedback. They have ambitious growth plans to expand quickly across UK, US and then the rest of the world. The work at Metacarpal has true meaning, impacting the lives of users, enabling them to complete activities of daily living faster and more effectively than other devices, whilst also boosting their confidence. This will be a rewarding and extremely interesting position, with fantastic career prospects.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute and lead major design projects and sub-assemblies
  • Translate production feedback and real-world user feedback into robust, practical design improvements
  • Engage directly with prosthetic users and clinical customers to understand needs and define improvement opportunities
  • Design, document, and maintain products in compliance with ISO 13485 and medical-device best practices
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are clearly communicated, manufacturable, and consistently produced to specification
  • Support design verification, validation, and testing activities across prototypes and production units
  • Contribute to forward planning of Metacarpal's product roadmap, ensuring designs consider future generations, compatibility, and ecosystem growth
  • Participate in supplier engagement and, in time, international travel to support manufacturing and supply-chain development

Experience Required:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an engineering design role
  • Experience designing within a regulated or quality-controlled environment
  • Proficiency with CAD software - SolidWorks preferred, however not required

What is on offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Share options - real ownership in the company you are helping to build
  • Fantastic opportunity for fast career development - significant scope for progression as Metacarpal grows
