I'm partnering with a retailer who is seeking a number of First Line Managers to join a busy, fast-paced Distribution Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to take responsibility for your own operational area, lead a team of colleagues and play a key role in delivering exceptional warehouse performance.

Working closely with Shift Managers and the wider leadership team, you will be responsible for leading a team of around 50 colleagues, driving productivity, maintaining high standards and ensuring safety, quality and efficiency are at the forefront of everything you do.

Shift Pattern: Rotating shift (06:00am - 2:00pm / 2:00pm - 10:00pm) working any 5 days from 7.

The Role

As a First Line Manager, you will take ownership of your area of the warehouse operation, supporting your team to achieve performance targets while creating an engaged and positive working environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, motivating and developing a team of approximately 50 colleagues.
  • Managing day-to-day warehouse activities across inbound receiving, stock put-away, picking, despatch and inventory management.
  • Supporting the delivery of operational KPIs, identifying challenges and working with the wider team to implement corrective actions.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture and ensuring safe working practices are embedded within your team.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Inventory, Planning, HR, Health & Safety and other operational functions.
  • Ensuring resources are effectively managed to meet changing operational demands and customer requirements.
  • Delivering engaging pre-shift briefings, communicating key performance updates and maintaining effective team engagement.
  • Supporting performance management through coaching, feedback and development.
  • Assisting the Shift Manager with operational leadership, including shift handovers when required.
  • Helping to refine and improve standard operating processes, procedures and ways of working.

About You

You will be an experienced warehouse professional with a passion for leading people and delivering operational results.

You will have:

  • Previous experience managing teams within a warehouse, distribution or fulfilment environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, engage and develop colleagues.
  • Experience working towards operational KPIs and driving improvements.
  • Good knowledge of warehouse processes including inbound, picking, despatch and inventory.
  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (RedPrairie experience would be advantageous).
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with a strong work ethic and a passion for creating an engaged team environment.
