An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Finance Manager to join a well-established heritage brand at a really exciting stage of its journey.

This is a growing, multi-channel consumer business with a strong heritage and ambitious plans for the future, including new store openings, continued e-commerce growth and an expanding wholesale operation.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you'll play a key role in developing and strengthening the finance function as the business enters its next phase of growth.

This is a hands-on senior finance role within a lean SME environment.

You'll lead a small team, take ownership of the day-to-day finance operation and work closely with the FD and wider business to improve processes, strengthen controls, develop systems and ensure the finance function is fit to support future growth.

The Role

  • Taking ownership of the day-to-day finance operation.
  • Leading, supporting and developing a small finance team across AP, AR and wider finance operations.
  • Owning and improving the month-end close process.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Reviewing and strengthening balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Investigating variances, discrepancies and historic items and ensuring these are appropriately resolved.
  • Overseeing journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and other month-end activities.
  • Improving the quality, consistency and timeliness of financial information.
  • Reviewing existing finance processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and control.
  • Bringing greater structure, consistency and professionalism to the finance function.
  • Developing robust and scalable processes as the business continues to grow.
  • Supporting finance systems development, implementation and improvement projects.
  • Playing a key role in the continued development and integration of finance systems.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline and automate processes.
  • Working closely with the FD on key finance and business projects.
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.

Developing a strong understanding of the commercial drivers across stores, e-commerce and wholesale.

  • Partnering with commercial, retail, buying, merchandising and operational teams.
  • Providing meaningful analysis and insight to support decision-making.
  • Supporting audit, statutory reporting, VAT and other compliance requirements.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical finance experience with a genuinely hands-on approach;

  • Experience as a Senior Finance Manager, Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial control experience.
  • Excellent month-end, management accounts and balance sheet experience.
  • Experience managing and developing a small finance team.
  • A proven track record of improving finance processes, controls and ways of working.
  • Experience dealing with complex or historic finance matters and bringing them up to date.
  • Experience of finance systems, implementation or process improvement projects.
  • Ideally experience within retail, fashion, e-commerce, wholesale, FMCG or another consumer-facing environment.
  • An understanding of multi-channel businesses, ideally across stores, e-commerce and wholesale.
  • Strong Excel and finance systems skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The personality we're looking for

We're looking for someone who

  • Gets into the detail – you're comfortable rolling your sleeves up and investigating an issue yourself.
  • Takes ownership – you don't simply highlight problems; you work through them and see things through to a solution.
  • Develops people – you enjoy coaching, mentoring and training and can give your team clarity around what good looks like.
  • Improves things – you're naturally curious about how things work and look for better, more efficient ways of doing them.
  • Is commercially minded – you want to understand the business behind the numbers and how stores, e-commerce and wholesale drive performance.
  • Is collaborative – you're a genuine team player who enjoys working in a lean environment where everyone gets involved.
  • Is adaptable – you're comfortable with change, growth and a fast-moving SME environment.

Why this role?

  • Work closely with the Finance Director.
  • Lead and develop a small finance team.
  • Help shape and strengthen the finance function.
  • Play a key role in systems and process development.
  • Support growth across stores, e-commerce and wholesale.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
