We are looking for a Night Shift Manager to be based at our Sustainable Distribution Centre in Northampton (NN7 2QA) and it will follow a Sunday-Thursday 22:00-06:00 shift pattern.
As a Shift Manager, you will provide strategic oversight of daily operations within an automated warehouse environment, ensuring that workflows, systems, and resources are optimised to support the site’s operational objectives.
You will lead the delivery of all contract warehouse functions, including Goods In, Order Preparation, Inventory Movements, and Outbound, as well as proactive issue resolution.
Operating at the forefront of a technology-driven logistics setting, this role is pivotal in strengthening operational resilience, upholding safety and compliance standards, and enabling exceptional customer service outcomes.
The role offers a salary of £40897.18, shift allowance of £1,872.

Key responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Lead the operational team and oversee activities to ensure customer orders are fulfilled efficiently and to the required standard.
- Ensure headcount is effectively planned and managed to provide the required resource levels to meet customer delivery demands.
- Drive activity and forecast planning by coordinating best-practice approaches across the operation and optimising the use of all available resources to meet demand.
- Oversee employee relations processes, including holiday approvals, to ensure optimal staffing levels that meet operational demand.
Proactively identify and escalation the need for additional temporary or permanent resources to maintain operational continuity and performance.
- Team Leadership
- Ensure all team members are aware of key outcomes, business processes, expectations and that all associated employee procedures are adhered to.
- Review the training and development needs of functional employees to ensure that employees are trained to the required standards.
- Ensure all company procedures are adhered to, including ER procedures, such as absence and performance management, standards of behaviour, disciplinary, PDR, etc, supporting with investigations and disciplinary hearings as necessary.
- Ensure all team members receive appropriate training and development, mentoring and support, as necessary.
- Expected levels of performance achieved in the team and employees' PDRs completed on time.
- All employees provided with clear development plans.
- Team culture enhancing and wellbeing activities defined and implemented.
- Health and Safety and Company procedures
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are adhered to at all times, raising any non-compliances or concerns at the earliest opportunity.
- Drive an engaged and robust H&S agenda across the sites with the Supervisory and Management teams.
- Ensure indirectly that all relevant issues are reported via the PRIME system.
- Chair the monthly H&S meeting in partnership with the H&S BP.
- Support MHE and other relevant equipment checks are always fully compliant.
- Seek to develop and deploy best practices across the contract
- Continuous Improvement
- Continuously look to improve processes and procedures to drive efficiency and improvement in business operations and customer service.
- Development of other logistics revenue opportunities with the customer.
- Close analysis, promotion, and identification of areas for improvement within Yusen’s quality management system.
- Promote Kaizen and Right First-Time principles within the team to develop a culture of continuous improvement
- Key Skills And Requirements
- Good level of general education, including a good understanding of both written and verbal English
- Proven experience in warehouse or logistics management, preferably in automated or technology-driven environments.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.
- Proven ability to interface with customers.
- PC literate with knowledge of Microsoft packages, Outlook, Excel and Word
